Correct, look at the picture of the brake fire on the news site and the tarps are slack.

Could have been a bearing failure too causing the fire.

Can't really blame a mechanic for the drivers foot being hard on the brakes .
If using the footbrake they need to learn how to drive....

Possible, Extremely rare for a bearing to fail unless the hub has no oil.
Also one of the easiest things to check.
Hate throwing anyone under the bus cause stuff can happen to anyone,
anytime they turn the key.
Best also to note the Trucking Industry has a far cleaner record for miles covered than
the passenger vehicles do.

No arguement there ..
Ones who know how to drive know that they go down the hill in the same gear they went up in .

Hopefully these were just bad luck and not an indication of bad maintenance. As has been mentioned I have to wonder how many people actually do a check on their own vehicles on a regular basis. One thing I do notice is many campers do not do checks before leaving. We have both an inside and outside check list. I do the outside and my wife does the inside and then reverse rolls. After we're all hooked up we check lights, tow vehicle etc and this is dome whether we sit for a month or over night. The best one I have seen so far this year was a motorhome coming in with their step out and bent in under the trailer. I'm not saying accidents can't happen and things can't be missed but our lives and those of others are involved here and we should take our responsibility as drivers seriously. I believe most commercial drivers take their job seriously as do the companies and the ones that don't should receive severe penalties.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

Probably 1% or significantly less of four wheel superstars.

That no longer applies, unless one still drives a 25-30 year old truck.
The switch from Mechanical Engines to Computer Controlled.
The technological Advancements in Compression Braking Systems (Jacobs or "Jake" brakes)
Puts that old addage you coined, out to pasture.
Proper gear selection still remains paramount though, just different.

What about the regular MVI inspections for commercial trucks and trailers?
Do you ?
I do check my car. Lights, turn signals, fluids, brakes, tires.
I do not have a commercial vehicle, that requires a Class 1 licence with air.
I put on less than 20,000 k a year.
It was an unfortunate incident, luckily, no one hurt or killed.
Like anything, sometimes things slip through.
Re-torques are required after a couple hundred K after any wheel off service.
My experience with slip seat trucks (two drivers sharing one rig, a 12 hour shift each)
Chambers model.
Is many things get left for the 'next' guy, then nothing gets done.
When I get myself a Super-B, feel free to ask me about my pre-trip inspections and regular maintenance.
If you ask nicely, I might even let you check my drivers' log.

Re: DCT Chambers safety???
I do a pre trip inspecton of my truck and 5th wheel every time before it moves and when in tow mode (all the time) I rarely need to use brakes on a downhill slope.
Came down the Blueberry Paulson and only had to brake a few times. They work very well.

So, why not just a simple explanation of what your trying to get across in the stead
of playing riddler ?

He's probably one of those drivers that uses the hand valve.
