One should take into account the fact that they barely had a clue about what was really happening in the skies. They knew nothing about meteors, comets and asteroids. Everything that happened 'up there' was explained through the dogma of the day. Angels flying in comets and god sending beams of light from 'the heavens' wouldn't have been too much of a stretch back then, especially when interpreted through the mind of an artist.

I guess they just painted what they seen. Like a painter looking at the sky would do, to day.

I don't think this creature has nothing to do with the egyptian cat, look at the egyptian cat, it looks just like a cat, the other creature above is wearing a tobe and is not a cat.

The famous Egyptian heiroglyphs in Abydos, Egypt ~ seem to show a helicopter (top, left of center)
~ plus 3 other cartouche depictions of seemingly high technological items (right of center, from top)
that appear to be a tank or submarine (top), a UFO (middle) and what looks like an airplane (bottom).
