One has nothing to do with the other. What is in the public domain already has already been invented. Conspiracy theorists have been described before. Where the words originate was already established well before the '60's.

So, no. The CIA did not invent the word “conspiracy theorist.”

A quick search of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) finds that the phrase had been used in May 1964:

New Statesman 1 May 694/2 Conspiracy theorists will be disappointed by the absence of a dogmatic introduction.

Well, look at that. You found some pertinent info on another skeptic site.

New Statesman 1 May 694/2 Conspiracy theorists will be disappointed by the absence of a dogmatic introduction.

That quote from the 1997 Oxford English Dictionary, purporting to be from a lone article written in a UK magazine in 1964, is regurgitated on many skeptic sites. The 1997 Oxford English Dictionary alleges the term conspiracy theorist was first used in a UK magazine in 1964 and predates the CIA info. Many of those skeptic sites quote this phrase from the 1997 Oxford dictionary, but none that I see have a link to the purported 1964 article. Have a link?

Typical cultural marxism...twisting history to fit the NWO.

That's what these skeptic sites do....and the lefties swallow it all up....

Who are conspiracy theorists? When are they dangerous?

But what, exactly, is a conspiracy theorist?
Image
^ That's a Pharisee - pointing at the "first" conspiracy theorist - Jesus. Conspiracy theorists are bad AND dangerous, he says.

Conspiracy theorists are pretty harmless most of the time. We have a special forum for them. We laugh at them. One of our favorite things to say about conspiracy theorists is - they wear a tinfoil hat, hahaha. Conspiracy theorists are funny.

But sometimes conspiracy theorists are dangerous. Can you imagine if a giant worldwide flu pandemic threatened to kill off every human from the face of the earth, and the only way to save humanity was for everyone to take a vaccine, and some "conspiracy theorist' came along and was saying not to take the vaccine - he could kill ALL humans forever. That's Very dangerous.

And conspiracy theorists can also be dangerous to our safety. When the terrorist, Osama Bin Laden wanted to kill Americans by blowing up towers in New York, he hid in an underground cave in the mountains.

Image
^ That is where Bin Laden hid - in a mountain fortress. We know that is true because that's what they said on the news. Can you imagine how dangerous it would be for all of us, if a conspiracy theorist were to claim there was no mountain fortress? Bin Laden would then be free to terrorize us, and kill us.

Conspiracy theorists deserve to be locked up.

Image
We all know terrorists are the reason for the Iraq war. But some conspiracy theorists say the guys showin in the picture above are responsible for that war. That's dangerous. Those guys above are looking out for our security. Bearded weirdos who live in mountain fortresses are the real threat to our security.

So, let's not pay any attention to conspiracy theorists. They are mostly harmless, and funny. But sometimes they can be very dangerous.

Wow! Is it just me or is the Thinktank the last person who should be making themselves the champion of this cause?

If someone tells me to pay no attention to a conspiracy theorist, I'll do the opposite.

It was someone on this forum that encouraged me to listen to what David Duke had to say. I'm not that
interested in 'white people', so I don't care much about David Duke. But at least I listened to what he had to say.
I found there is no such thing as a conspiracy theorist who is 100% right.
They are all wrong in some ways and right in other ways.

Image
That's David Duke. David Ernest Duke (born July 1, 1950) is an American white supremacist and white nationalist politician, antisemitic conspiracy theorist, Holocaust denier, convicted felon, and former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. (from wikipedia)

So ........ should you - at least - listen to what David Duke has to say? Or avoid him like the plague?

discuss

Icke has been known since the 1990s as a professional conspiracy theorist

Hmm. I'm starting to see a problem here. They say David Icke is a conspiracy theorist.
Yet he sounds smarter than 99% of the people I know.
