I thought there was a thread about this, but I can't find it. So here we go again, means that changes are getting more and more radical lately....

Britain braced as 'once-in-50-years storm' set to hit

Parts of Britain are braced for more flooding as a "once-in-50-years storm" is set to hit the south-west and Wales.

NASA have released a satellite image of the major storm which is heading towards the UK on Thursday night and Friday morning as a slow-moving area of low pressure brings thundery showers and strong winds.

The Met Office issued a new warning of wet and windy weather with periods of persistent heavy rain for parts of Wales and south-western England from late on Thursday until Saturday.

Many parts of the country will be affected by rain as the system moves north, with winds of up to 55mph in parts of the South East and East Anglia, according to MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association.

The Environment Agency urged people in the South West and most of Wales to remain vigilant and prepared for flooding.

There are concerns the rain could lead to surface water flooding particularly in upland areas and places already at risk of floods after heavy rain earlier this week.

The Environment Agency has two flood warnings for rivers in place, where flooding is expected, and 12 less serious flood alerts. The government agency has also issued direct flood alerts to more than 32,500 properties this week.

Pumping equipment has been deployed in several areas in West Sussex to pump out water following flooding earlier in the week.

People have been complaining that the weather is unusual and/or brutal forever. Do you have any evidence that there is truly anything out of the ordinary happening?

Dallas hailstorm leaves brutal aftermath

Published: June 14, 2012 at 8:16 PM

DALLAS, June 14 (UPI) -- Dallas residents set to work Thursday cleaning up and repairing damage from a sudden hailstorm forecasters called one of the city's worst in 10 years.

Tennis ball-sized hailstones began to shower down with alarming speed around 6 p.m. Wednesday, smashing windows and skylights, tearing apart trees and denting cars -- although no injuries were reported -- The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday.

"This will definitely be up there in the rankings of Dallas' worst hailstorms in the last 10 years," said Nick Hampshire of the National Weather Service.

Greenskeepers got busy early Thursday repairing countless divots left in the Lakewood Country Club golf course. The Lakewood Theater's tower and marquee will remain dark for some time, the handmade neon tubes destroyed by the hail.

Five lily pads on "Persian Pond" -- an installation by famed glass artist Dale Chihuly at the Dallas Arboreum -- were smashed by hailstones. Attendees of "Chihuly night" were forced to take cover when the storm hit.

Body shops, glass repair shops and repair services have been inundated with damage claims, some even having to turn away customers. Insurance companies buckled under an unprecedented call volume.

Taiwan flooding kills six people with two more missing

Taiwan has seen devastating floods after days of rain.

At least six people have been killed after flooding hit Taiwan.

Torrential rain brought floods to counties in numerous parts of the country, forcing thousands of people to evacuate their homes.

Taiwan's Central Emergency Operation Centre said more than 7,000 people were moved, with the help of the military, according to Reuters news agency.

The flooding caused landslides, as well as power cuts and water shortages to tens of thousands of homes.

The emergency centre said flooding had caused power cuts to more than 87,000 homes and water shortages to 12,000.

While it was reported that six people had died, a further two were said to be missing.

The Associated Press said two people had been killed in a makeshift shelter in a landslide in Taichung, while two more were killed in landslide in Nantou county.

Reuters said the agricultural loss to the country had been estimated at more than NT$172m ($5.76m/£3.69m).

Taiwan's Central News Agency quoted President Ma Ying-jeou as saying those losses would be compensated.

He said this would take place through more generous subsidies and an easier application process for funding.

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence has more than 47,000 personnel ready for relief assistance, according to the Taipei Times.

The newspaper said 411 rivers across the country had been placed on red alert for mud flows with a further 416 on yellow alert.

Nothing to worry about, tornadoes hit Italy all the time....

Tornado Hits Venice
June 12, 2012 By Alex Roe 8 Comments

At around 11am today, a tornado hit Venice in Italy. Initial reports indicate that trees were damaged, market stalls overturned and some buildings were damaged. No injuries have been reported,

One of the worst hit areas was the Sant’Elena island where an open air market was in progress. The tornado caused terrified shoppers to dash for cover.

A water bus ticket office had its roof ripped off by the tornado which some reports stated was a waterspout. A number of boats were capsized.

Around one hundred trees on Certosa Island were knocked down by the tornado and the outdoor dining area of the island’s restaurant was completely destroyed.

On Sant’Erasmo island, the roofs were removed from around a dozen houses, according to reports from emergency services in the area. In the interests of safety, the cemetery on Sant’Erasmo island has been closed.

Here are two videos of today’s tornado:

And this one is like the most normal of all...

China's Wuhan city covered in mysterious haze

Image

Young and old residents of the Chinese metropolis of Wuhan were advised to stay indoors on Monday after a thick haze blanketed the city of nine million people, official media said.

Described by residents as opaque with yellowish and greenish tinges, the fug descended suddenly in the morning, prompting people to rush to put on face masks, witnesses told AFP.

The official Xinhua news agency quoted the environmental protection department of Hubei province saying in a statement: "Children, the elderly and people with heart or respiratory diseases are advised to stay indoors."

Xinhua said straw burning was the cause and denied there had been any industrial accidents in or near Wuhan, after Internet rumours suggested there had been an explosion at a chemical complex northeast of the city.

"I looked out of the window of my office and I could not believe my eyes," said resident Li Yunzhong.

"At first I thought it was going to rain. In 31 years in Wuhan I have never known anything like it. We are very worried because we do not know what it is."

[Related: China tells U.S. to stop tweeting about Beijing air]

France's consulate-general in the central city advised residents to stay at home, close their windows and limit the use of air-conditioning.

"The source of the thick cloud that has covered the city of Wuhan since this morning is at present unknown," it said on its website.

"Local authorities have promised us the information as soon as possible."

Xinhua described the haze as grey-yellow in colour and said it was seen in seven cities in Hubei province, including Wuhan.

Air pollution is increasingly acute in major Chinese cities and authorities are frequently accused of underestimating the severity of the problem in urban areas, especially in Beijing.

Air-quality monitoring showed Wuhan's PM10 particulate concentration stood at 0.574 mg per cubic metre at 2:00 pm, more than triple the daily average of 0.150 mg, Xinhua reported.

[Related: What's in the air you're breathing?]

But it quoted the environmental protection department saying industrial accidents were not responsible and analysis showed an increase in carbon particles from burning organic matter.

"Many farmers choose to burn crops that are left behind in their fields after harvesting," Xinhua said.

But Li was sceptical. "I doubt that," he said. "We don't practise large-scale shifting agriculture in our region."

Another resident told AFP she was leaving the city because of the cloud.

Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and an industrial centre where many foreign firms have set up factories, including the French automotive group PSA Peugeot Citroën.

Alstom also manufactures boilers for coal-fired power plants there.

China's environment suffers from industrial pollution, increasing traffic and lax protection measures.

Official air-quality statistics are sometimes at odds with non-government measurements, and are often viewed with distrust.

Work continues at Truswell property

Kelowna, B.C. – A local state of emergency remains in place this morning for the Walnut Grove property on Truswell Road. City crews worked through the night to deliver 30 loads of rock to stabilize a failing retaining wall along Mission Creek. Updates will be posted when new information is available.

Image
A failing retaining wall at the Walnut Grove property at 549 Truswell Rd. has prompted a local state of emergency.

Residents at the 30-unit rental property have been placed on evacuation alert.

Part of a retaining wall abutting Mission Creek at the back of the Walnut Grove property has fallen into the creek and the rest of the wall lining the creek is in jeopardy of falling.

After monitoring Mission Creek water flow at the property throughout the day and an inspection Thursday evening by a hydrological engineer, emergency officials decided to put the residents on evacuation alert.

City crews are preparing to remove some soil from the area and bring in large rip-rap rock to stabilize the area. More details on the situation will be issued when they become available.

Residents are asked to continue to exercise caution near any area creeks and streams. Please keep children and pets safely back from creek banks, which may be slippery or subject to erosion by the higher, swifter moving water. There is also the potential for unexpected rapid increases in creek water levels.

Bejevas, do you seriously believe a retaining wall next to a creek failing is somehow a sign of radical change on Earth? Do you really believe that?

Nebula, can you look a the bigger picture for once? there a LOTS of things happening around the world at ONCE, when disasters used to be not so often everywhere.

And another thing, the local disaster we are facing, is due to too much rain, and guess what? the chemtrails create lots of rain all over North America... that's why we're getting this freaking weather which is creating disasters. Sorry to bother you trying to make you look at the bigger picture, everything is perfectly normal.

It's difficult to discuss an issue with someone who believes in fantasies.

Bad weather has been around forever. Do you have evidence that these so-called disasters didn't occur as often in the past? No, of course not. You simply state that as if it is fact.

There is no such thing as chemtrails and, whether you like it or not, it has rained in the past. In fact, it rained long before there were ever jet aircraft in the skies. I have no idea why you think recent rains are anything out of the ordinary.

I suspect this all results from living in fear and wishing it to continue. May the boogeyman be with you.
