What's with all the jets overhead today? It turned into a partly cloudy day with all of the contrails!

Uh, nothing. People getting from point A to point B just like they do every day. Some days the contrails dissipate faster than others depending on the atmospheric temperature and humidity at altitude.
Flights between Western Canada and Eastern Canada criss cross east to west. Flights going from the Western US to Europe/Middle East go South to North. Throw in some flights between the Lower 48 and Alaska and Asia and its a plane spotters dream.
