They are a brand new THAI restaurant. Look up Thai food, noodles, rice, more noodles, they could be rice noodles.
Perhaps you should have asked that.
I doubt that a brand new restaurant is target marketing a particular group of people with a specific food sensitivity.

I would think though, that anyone opening a new restaurant would be up to date on what's going on in the industry.
Your "Are you for real" approach is a bit harsh considering the poster did nothing to attack...they were simply stating their concern with a new establishment that isn't even aware of one of the more 'popular' concerns in today's food biz...and fairly warned others who may have similar concerns.

I have a close friend that isn't able to eat anything with gluten.
If I were having to plan a quick and easy eat to share with this friend, I'd have asked the same thing...and without being 'knowledgeable' on gluten products or what types of foods generally contain it, I'd also be out of 'the know'.
I'm gonna guess that had I asked and been surprised by the lack of knowledge from a new restaurant, I too would be a target of ridicule for my ignorance and ask of such a silly question.
Maybe it's just me...but I think you kinda jumped the gun a bit on a relatively new forum member.

The 'new kid on the block' outta know what they're stepping into, and have their ducks lined up enough to answer such a basic question by today's standards...no? :smt102

Of course they should also be organic, no genetically modified foods, low sodium, low fat, low carbohydrate and have no lactose, or nuts either.
I'm sure there are other requirements I have forgotten. They better get right on that as well.

For all we know, the cook might not even speak English.

(If you are picking up something for your friend, perhaps it would make more sense to ask him what he can eat.)

Wow....

I mean...

WOWWWWWW

Can you EVER stretch that taffy!

Nobody was saying nor insinuating an expectation of any kind when it comes to all food issues and concerns. There was an ask, and a failure to comprehend. That's the issue. Any restaurant owner opening a new business outta be up to date on today's food issues. That doesn't mean they need to cater to them, but they should at least know what they are serving, and in this case they failed on that ask.

I know the cook speaks English. So for all YOU know outta have been your line...don't include 'we' where no 'we' stands. Don't be afraid to stand alone...even when you're wrong.

As for asking my friend what she can or cannot eat...that would be a HUGE list don't ya think?
There are scenarios that wouldn't work regardless, but I suspect you'll overlook them as well.

You're quite obviously not in the 'right' here gg, and without doubt you owe the previous poster an apology. I suspect that won't happen any faster than you accepting being in the wrong in both posts (the one to rosarnach as well as to me).

Not sure why you have a bone to pick at here, but defending the business owner and justifying their shortcomings is a pretty thin platform to stand on. Are ya sure ya don't wanna step on down here with the commoners and "be for real"?

Well after all the reading here we decided to test it out . We thought it was very good , flavorful food . The little oriental lady was the only one there at the time and she was very polite and seemed to appreciate the business . Would definitely eat there again .

Excellent. Sounds like you had a good experience there. The food is good isn't it? Might have to grab some take-out this w/e.

Our order was:

7. Tom Kah Gai
A rich and spicy broth of lemon grass, galanga, coconut milk and chicken

31. Phad Thai Goong
Stir-fried noodles, egg, tofu, prawns and green onions topped with bean sprouts and crushed peanuts

1 Lg steamed rice.

I'd highly recommend both.
I want to try other items, but these will be two to add to my faves I'm sure.
The soup is something I'd do illegal things to attain.

I wanna try:
34. Phad Lard Nah Goong
A bed of rice noodles topped with stir fried prawns, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, suey choy and delicious house sauce

38. Tofu Curry
Red curry sautéed with coconut milk, tofu, bamboo shoots, carrots, peppers and basil

The website is a copy paste image project with no pertinent links or email contact.
It's a menu, but that's it...unless you want the Wikipedia explanation to what Thai food is :127: or a link to a blog in a foreign lingo...you know...pertinent stuff.

Thanks for the menu and I don't see your problem with it. It explains perfectly well each dish - in English. I'm not at all familiar with Thai food but the menu definitely tells me what I need to know.

Come on, give the small business guy a break, if he has to cut an paste a menu, at least he's trying to get off the ground!

You're right, they are at least trying to get the place off the ground.
I hope they do too, because I did genuinely enjoy the food.
I'm actually giving constructive criticism in hopes that the owner reads this thread and takes some of what's said for what it is.
There's an expectation these days as a customer, and the comments and criticisms are valuable info if you know what to take and what to discard.
Location and image are everything. If you don't have both, you've really got to strive to exploit the one you do have to top up your punch.
This place has terrific food. The location is a tough one, so they really need to push the image.
There are free and easy to use web design examples to use that are available to anyone that knows how to type into a Google Search.
There are free and inexpensive means to acquire appropriate decor.
Polishing your mannerisms and appearance costs nothing.

The menu on the website is 'good'. The rest of the website needs work. Use the free examples and find a free plug n play program to set one up. Leave a comment box or email link for those who wish to comment or critique.
The most important thing to do is follow successful examples. Find a similar venue with high success and follow their lead.

So...in the end I do in fact intend to support the business, by being a return customer. I'm also offering support by means of honest criticism and judgment. The 'comment card' left behind (in this case...this forum thread) packs a lot of value for the business owner. I hope they read 'em over.

Went for lunch again today - ordered the Pad Thai but asked her to spice it up a bit. (I think you need to convey to the cook how much heat you want). It was everything I wanted. It was very very yummy - to the point that if there hadn't been other patrons I would have licked the plate. The owner/cook made a point of coming out of the kitchen & visited every patron in the place. She is a sweetie - she wanted to know if it was too hot (which it wasn't - it was perfect). The young female waitress today was lovely as well - very friendly and attentive. Service was fast.

You can see they're really trying. New carpet is in & they've arranged the tables a bit. The restaurant biz is rough at the best of times & in this economy (especially with our beloved HST added on now) I do give them credit and that's why I will spend what little I have for lunches out at places like this.

Although it IS a weird location (construction going on across the hallway), I will be a repeat customer. This is NOT the place you take your honey for a romantic meal !!! BUT - The food is great ! OMG - I could eat that pad thai again right now just thinking about it.

Gotta love pad Thai...the dish I had was basically pad Thai with prawns and some peanuts crumbled on.

I could really go for a bowl of their soup right now. Must try others.

So I did it! I went to this Thai restaurant this past Saturday to sample the amazing food, and was I disappointed? Definately NOT! I ordered the #3 and the #7 and it was lovely, flavourful, and even my son ate it, and he is a typical picky almost-4-year-old. It was a quick stop as we were headed back home, just passing through, but I would definately stop again and again. The decor, definately needs up dating, but who cares when the food is that good? The service, just awesome, and the lady in the kitchen came out, talked with my son for a bit, it was super cute... :rate10:

I shouldn't have come back to this thread. :132:

Now I want that Tom Kah Gai ( #7 )
I wonder if they sell it by the bucket.
