Some sort of squawking sound at dusk

Post by Kelter82 »

Has anyone else heard the nightly squaking (sounds almost like a cat's crying but with no variance squak-to-squak) in Winfield? Happens at dusk and promptly shuts up once it's dark. It's loud and seems to echo throughout the valley. Anyone have an idea what that might be? My dad thought maybe the emus at the kangaroo farm...

No point to this post other than "do you hear what I hear?" So thanks for reading.

What area are you talking about? I'm in OK Centre & don't hear it.

Probably DLC council squawking at someone for trying to enjoy their lives. Next stop, Supreme Court!

We have friends who live not far from there. If you have ever heard her laugh then you would know what it is! lol

Someone probably moved the peacocks from Naramata to Winfield.

One possibility...

We have merlins nesting on the mountain behind us (Boucherie). They hunt at dusk frequently, but can also be heard during the day.

It's the peacocks from the Kangaroo Farm on Main Street. The sometimes come for a visit to our yard, and we are just over the creek. They are typically noisy first thing in the morning and late in the evening.

I'm, pretty certain it is a side hill gouger,I used to hear them all the time in Sask and Alberta, But didn't think they had migrated this far west. Must catch one to find out.
