Lake Country Smash and Grab

A Lake Country woman has a warning for motorists in the community - Don't leave valuables in your vehicle!

Laura Gaglardi learned that the hard way after an expensive radar detector was stolen from her vehicle in broad daylight.

Fortunately the incident was caught by the building's surveillance camera and Gaglardi has released the footage to Castanet in hopes someone will recognize the thief and alert police.

Gaglardi says the theft took place minutes before 3 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the beelineweb.com building across from McDonalds in Winfield.

"I finish work at 3 o'clock so I went outside to leave for the day and saw that my driver's window had been smashed and my radar detector stolen out of it," says Gaglardi.

"When we finally looked on the surveillance camera we saw it happened a minute-and-a-half before I came out for the day."

The video clearly shows someone on a bicycle circle the parking lot moments before the theft. Someone on a bike then leaves the scene immediately after the theft.

"We noticed earlier in the day there was a guy riding his bike around the parking lot but we didn't think anything of it because bikes pass through our parking lot all day," sasy Gaglardi.

"I think what he was doing was scoping out the scene and looking inside thee vehicles when he was riding around because in the video you can see him ride past and go towards Coopers more and ride back. He was in and out of my car so fast...he knew what he wanted."

While the thief appears to be wearing some sort of bike helmet Gaglardi hopes someone will recognize the bike or the suspect's demeanor or what he's wearing.

While thefts like this are rare in Lake Country, Gaglardi wants people to be aware that a thief is on the loose.

The radar detector is an Escort Passport 9500IX.

I'm personally having a hell of a time feeling sympathy for someone who had their radar detector stolen from their car when people are getting personal information stolen and ID Theft happening to them on a daily basis.

Well, perhaps someone will break into your secured vehicle one day and steal something so you can gain some sympathy. I'm assuming you think that, just because it is a radar detector, it's somehow ok for some useless little juvie to break the window and grab what they want?
That is pathetic.

As much as I appreciate someone else putting words into my mouth for me, how about you stop assuming and making an *bleep* out of yourself and NEVER AGAIN PUT WORDS INTO MY MOUTH?

If someone is going to have something stolen from their car, I'd rather it be a radar detector than personal information *removed*

Interesting that you edited your post to add that part. Hey, this use of bold is really cool.

So how about you STOP MAKING A POST THAT SAYS SOMETHING and then when you are called out on it YOU FREAK and change the original to mean something totally different.....NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!

Wow, that is even keener when it's bold and all caps. Thanks. And, at least I have half of a wit. It appears some have none. With your edit, you might as well have said its hard to have sympathy when there are murders happening. Who cares what else is happening. They got broken into in broad daylight and I don't think it's hard to have sympathy at all. OKAY?

NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM

Wonder why the kid targeted that particular car? he road though the parking lot once, did a loop and immediately went to that car and smashed the window. Probably dont mean nothing, just seems a little odd. usually they scope out the cars first

I would assume on a quick drive by, he saw the radar detector in the window and it was the lowest hanging fruit. Little bugger. I hope someone recognizes him.
Sorry, forgot the ALL CAPS, haha :)

Oh cool, I wasn't aware damaging property and theft was acceptable as long as you only steal personal belongings. I guess you wouldn't mind somebody breaking into your house and stealing your TV then, eh? Just make sure you don't leave your passport next to the TV. Gotta keep it safe, bro.

Down here, (Lost Angeles) its a common theft problem. Thieves on bikes. Whenever I park and see random guy a on bicycle really going nowhere, its a red flag. Other common threat is when you see two guys casing the parking lot on bikes, ones going to be the look out once they spot the vehicle they intend to hit. Always cover your stuff, I carry a black towel just for that reason. Of course I wish I had a dollar for everytime I go out to the car and see my wifes purse in the footwell.
