Grohl is OK but I'd take a number of drummers over him...

Anyway

Wait a minute. Them Crooked Vultures is not to be rated on drumming alone. They are a great band. Dave Grohl should also not be rated by drumming alone. These guys have heart and bring passion back to music backed by bucket loads of talent. And Dave Grohl is really putting an effort into inspiring people to make good music. Let's give credit where it is deserved.

hey now - I didn't bash anyone & I was responding to a particular point made by someone else. Trust me, I'm more than familiar with TCV & Grohl. (remember the webiste I admin? ) Grohl's quite good, but (and this happens a lot) he gets extra credit simply for being popular, which is something that bothers me, that's all. (popular /= best, talent-wise) Anyway, I much prefer Kyuss, but that's just more my style than anything. (seen them live on the Sky Valley tour) You might wanna check out Red Fang.

Since I mentioned Kyuss & am now listening to them, here's a track from the tour I mentioned. BTW this is where Josh Homme started out... (and one of my fave songs to play on guitar these days haha)

Alright, you won me back with Kyuss. :D They are also one of my favourites and I have also seen them live. It was in Kelowna though but still awesome, I am so jealous you saw the original line up. I have the entire discography. I have seen Queens of the Stone Age live four times now. The whole genre is awesome and I'm pretty well versed in it. I do agree with the extra credit for being popular too. Have you heard the Desert Sessions recordings? I'm guessing probably.

Yep!

I saw Kyuss at The Opera House in Toronto in 94 or 95. I even got up on stage & dove into the crowd like a maniac. (everyone else was! Including the bassist) I've got Sky Valley on vinyl (Germany-released on 180 gram)

Here's sumthin' for ya:

And I have to say that my fave band of the "stoner rock" style is, by a large margin - Colour Haze. I wish I had discovered them earlier. Best guitar tone ever, and a tight & talented group. (I've a number of their albums on vinyl)

1 more, just to show another aspect they're capable of:

That longboarding video of Colour Haze is just scarey. Speed wobbles appear to be a thing of the past.
