Free Indian vegetarian meals in Okanagan
Which Sikh temple in OK has the tastiest food served at langar (communal public meals)? Are there any popular Sikh festivals in Penticton or Kelowna? Any moderately-sized city near farming in BC usually has some Punjabis, no? In Canada the two North Indian groups (ethnicity and religion) are almost synonymous.
Every city I sojourn in for more than a month I try to attend a Sikh festival, or at least visit a Gurudwara (Temple) in part for the wholesome veg meals. Typically I leave a modest donation, even though it is not required. I have sat on the clean floor and dined with people of all religions and no religion: in Mallaca, Dhaka, Vancouver, Bangkok. It is not customary to refuse food to anyone wishing to eat who follows a few simple rules of basic etiquette.
I don't care if the temple is the predominant Khalsa, or Namdhari, Kabir, or Ramdas panthi -- I just like subji, dahl and capatis! And the opportunity to hear some hymns. No one preaches to you. I tend to avoid Khalistan movement-affiliated temples if I am savvy (I am not always).
Anyone on this board been to langar in Okanagan Valley? I only know of two or three. Langar is usually after Sunday service. I think...
* Anyone interested in the history of Islamic expansion in Asia, I highly recommend you read up on Sikh history. Especially the stories of their 16th and 17th century martyrs.

anyone attend in Penticton or Kelowna?

I was too busy to attend the Surrey or Vancouver one. And locally there is a tarnished reputation among some Khalsa Sikh organizations for supporting religious terrorism. I don't like to have to delve into the politics of houses of worship before I know if I can in good conscience attend a community event.

Modi, the Prime Minister of India was persona non grata in pre-Trump USA as he was accused or war crimes or tolerating anti-Muslim communal violence.
I don't know who to believe anymore! I just want samosas in tamarind chutney (typically you get cilantro instead) in a festive family atmosphere.

^^ we all want that, but most of us just go to restaurants.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

No comparison! Wouldn't you rather stand with a styrofoam plate having spice tea among crowds? You can always give a donation.

I've done that plenty of times, Global Earth day, Folkfest, food cart stuff. But nothing beats a nice sit down dinner unless you're buying sushi out of a back of a car in Haida Gwaii and taking it to Jungle Beach.

Thanks for the reminder, checked to see when the annual parade in Rutland is and it is this weekend, lots of fun, colourful outfits and great food provided by people along the parade route.
You can see the past but cannot go there, you cannot see the future but you can go there.
