Before scaring everyone keep in mind that if one is to avoid quinoa because of diverticulitis, the other foods to avoid would be legumes, oats, brown rice and a lot of other fruits and vegetables. And no alcohol.

If something has the potential to bring harm to you, then don't eat it. That should go without saying.

I think the intent of this thread was to share a liking for quinoa, not shoot it down.

While I agree, there is nothing in the title saying good or bad so it is open to each posters experience.

Mine was not a good experience (We didn't care for the taste) but it had nothing to do with the medical issue.

With how much difficulty we're having with pronouncing it, we should rename it.

To something like "bland tasteless *bleep*". Everybody knows how to pronounce it.

- Hi, I think I'd like to order a bland tasteless *bleep* salad
- No you don't. Have a burger instead.
- Oh thank you, I don't know what I was thinking.

See, much easier.

I like to make a tex-mex type salad with quinoa. Cook the quinoa with some chili powder and cumin. When cooked and cooled, toss with black beans, corn, red onion, jalapeno, cilantro, olive oil and fresh lime juice.

That sound really good.

I'm going to be buying raw quinoa soon and will be sorta like Alan's cooking show with it, full report and all.
Here I thought there was nothing lower than a snakes belly in a rut in a ditch. I was wrong.

I have extensive diverticulosis and because I had 'heard' that seeds might exacerbate the problem, I asked the surgeon specifically about it. He said that this was 'old school thinking' and assured me I could continue eating sunflower seeds, corn on the cob, apple seeds, whole grain cooked/raw cereal (Red River), bread with flax seeds - anything my little heart and taste buds felt like. That was over 4 years ago and I have not changed my diet or my wine consumption - and have not had an episode of diverticulitis!!
