Read any good books lately?

I found a very handy list this morning. Only for us horror weirdos though.

I understand that the Friends of the Library Sale started Thursday and was actually quite expensive this year.

Well, today, it's "fill a bag with books for $5.00" day.
The Sutherland Ave location, as per usual.

Lots of people there filling bags with books.

You pay $5 for their bag and then fill it. Walk out with the bag. Prices were $2 per book. Seems steep since they're all donated and the thift stores are cheaper.

Anyone got any insight on the sale this Fall? I missed it due to travelling.

I just finished Fried Green Tomatoes At The Whistlestop Cafe by Fannie Flagg

I had seen the movie (and remembered I loved it) but had never read the book. I loved it so much. It's one of those books you really don't want to end. I wanted so much to just stay there in Whistlestop! :)

I just finished "The Man with the Golden Torc" by Simon Green. Think druidic magic/super high tech meets James Bond. It was a little reminiscent of Spyder Robinson's writing, specifically "Callahan's Crosstime Saloon".

:200: A Head Full Of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay This is one of those books that, after you finish it you just don't know what to read next. Nothing is going to come close to this story.

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd Not the type of book I usually read, but I enjoyed it! :) Sad and sweet at the same time.

NOW I am reading The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

I thought I had read it. Maybe I did in the '70's but there is so much more to the story (of course!) than was covered in the movie. :D

Nightmare fuel - won't touch it :130:

I've been reading my way through the Secret Histories - I mentioned Simon Green's "The Man with the Golden Torc"? there are more, and they all pun on Bond movies (among other things) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_History_(book_series)

The Man with the Golden Torc (UK: 17 May 2007, US: 5 June 2007)
Daemons Are Forever (US 3 June 2008)
The Spy Who Haunted Me (2 June 2009 US: 12 April 2009 UK)
From Hell with Love (US 1 June 2010)
For Heaven's Eyes Only (US 7 June 2011)
Live and Let Drood (US 5 June 2012)
Casino Infernale (US & UK 4 June 2013)
Property of a Lady Faire (US 3 June 2014)
From a Drood to a Kill (US 2 June 2015)
Dr. DOA (US 7 July 2016)
Moonbreaker (US 6 June 2017)

I've got the last two to read, but being sick I haven't been able to do much else.

I finished The Exorcist last night. :135: I have to tell you, there is more detail in the book of course, but honestly, the dialog between characters was pretty horrible. "Would you like a cup of coffee?" "Okay, well, yeah." I wish I could find out how many times different characters answered with that. Not just one, but most of them. lol It was annoying.
