To me it does not matter the classification of the music, good, is good, and frankly I never even considered these, songs, and many more like them, country....I've always thought of them as "Trucker Music" I guess being a 'trucker' that is only natural..

Sorry for the slightly OFF TOPIC, just responding

One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard but very few people know it.

Tonight by Elton John it is long over 7 minutes, you must listen to the lyrics

When I was in New Orleans the last time, there was an older gentleman set-up with his steel guitar and a small amp on the corner of St.Louis and Royal streets, just down from my hotel. I was on my way back to my hotel in the middle of the night, in the pouring rain (and when I say pouring I mean flash flood type pouring) and he started to play this.

I had to stop and listen...I may have even been caught singing along. It was one of those 'time-stopped' moments.

Interesting. I always liked the song because I though it had a positive message and image to me. I guess it goes to show how we can associate different songs with times in our lives and have different meaning.

Red Sovine... oh yea. King of the tearjerkers.

I've always been partial to "My Immortal" from Evanescence. It was based on a short story written by one of the band members about a woman who's haunted by the ghost (memory?) of a former lover. Amy Lee said she's never really liked the song since she never wrote it. Too bad since her voice is captivating in it. Find the version where it's mostly just the piano in it.

Oh, and speaking of captivating voices, "Angel" from Sarah McLaughlin.
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

A very good collection of songs. I live the Eddy Vedder stuff - he always sounds sad to me. Yes, and Please Don't Take the Girl is a good one as well. Along Naturally, is also sad in its own way.

A sad song list would not be complete with Rick Danko and The Band performing It Makes No Difference.

It makes no diff'rence where I turn
I can't get over you and the flame still burns
It makes no diff'rence night or day
The shadow never seems to fade away...
