How to tell good art from bad art thread

Post by Thinktank »

There's a lot of art out there. Some is great. Some is crap.
You might want to know how to tell the good fro the crap so you don't waste your money and
get ripped off.

Basically, if the art looks good, it's good. and if it looks like crap, it's not good. That's the easiest way to tell.

And here's some art that looks bad. You can clearly see the artists have no talent.

see the difference?

now don't go buy bad art and get ripped off. If it looks good - it's good.
If it looks like crap, it's no good.

How would you classify these paintings?

Me thinks you are comparing between to many different styles of painters. Stick to 1 style & find good and bad within that 1.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

David Geffen sold this painting to Steven A. Cohen in 2006.

Second painting is the most expensive piece of artwork around the world.

Adjusted price: $148.1 Million | Original price: $140 Million

David Geffen sold this painting to David Martinez in 2006.

What the hell does their religion have to do with art?

it means nothing to me.

mark rothko - $72 million

^ when paintings like this one sell for $millions, it's probably just super rich people
getting enjoyment making the poor people feel bad, than the painting actually being worth that amount of money.

I hate to admit agreeing with the OP but some of this stuff they call art and sell for millions of dollars just doesn't make sense to me.
There is no talent involved in splattering a bit of paint on a canvas so why encourage it with a ridiculous amount of money.

If I like it, it is good art.

If I don't like it, I don't consider it good art. Someone else may, but that is their taste, not mine.
