Canada also denies entry to people with prior convictions in other countries. People also often make the mistake of thinkingthat if what they possess isn't illegal in the US (ie marijuana or a registered handgun) that they can simply cross the border with it in their vehicle or on their person.

US border agents aren't in the tourism or economic growth business, they don't care how much money you're going to spend or how US culture will benefit from your presence. They are law enforcement, and enforcing the law is all they care about.

The gun may be legal, but the pot isn't legal in the USA.
