Herbal Tea for Relaxation

Post by Donald G »

I am looking for the names of Herbal Teas that local people use to relax. I have tried a number and some seem to work and some not so well but nothing seems to really stand out.

Thanks. Have tried the Chamomile that you identified which is presently in my top two. Am presently trying Twinings Goodnight Blend; Camomile (note different spelling) with 7 other herbs blended in. Just started it this morning.

The more I read about taking tea for relaxation the more I find myself in a never never land that, in my opinion, has little to do with medical or physiologic reality. I suspect that, aside from the calming ritual that goes with the preperation and drinking of a cup of tea, and the memories it may evoke, there is little about tea that actually promotes sleep.

To Weather Woman ...

I found that a jigger of Rye and a drop of honey with a cup of hot camomile tea works best to date.

You could try valerian root tea, available at Natures Fare.

My husband brought us some of the best tea I have ever had home from the Yukon. http://aromaborealis.com/northern-lights-tea-70-g I'll be ordering some more for sure.

If you like chamomile, try it fresh this spring.
Dried chamomile that comes from a store may have lost much if its volatile oils.
Chamomile is easily found in compacted soil, dirt pathways, etc.
Pick the yellow flower heads and steep them fresh.
A handful of them can sometimes leave you cross eyed.
It's definitely best when picked fresh.
There's lots out there, it's everywhere.

I like lemon balm or hibiscus teas for relaxing. I'm actually somewhat allergic to chamomile; topically is fine but if I drink it I'm sick. Mint teas are nice too. Or a nice decaf chai.
I haven't failed until I quit.
