Xmas Cake - love it or hate it?

Post by Barney Google »

Okay Folks, let's hear your thoughts on the festive tradition of Xmas cakes.

Got any fond memories or tragic nightmares making or consuming this traditional holiday confection?

I prefer the light Christmas cake, with the marzipan icing but will eat the dark cake too. I always buy at least one cake for Christmas.

My mom makes a lovely white Christmas cake - no icing on hers (doesn't need it).

My mother in law makes a beautiful dark Christmas cake (again no icing), mostly nuts and fruit baked in a loaf and then soaked in alcohol for months. I like them both. Maybe next year I'll make some.

Always hated it, until my mom made a dark chocolate and cherry christmas cake. That was delicious.

I love the look on some people's faces when they've been gifted a Xmas cake during the holidays.

Priceless...lol

A box of reindeer poop would have been more warmly received.

I've tried many different versions of this cake, still not a fan of it. To those who enjoy it, all the power to ya..... you're more then welcome to my share.
Please pass down them gingerbread cookies or shortbread or sugar cookies.

Way too much sugar in it for me. Give me a good Peanut Butter cookie any day...they're healthy! :smt045
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?

I've always enjoyed it but it has to have a nice icing and be moist. Nothing worse than a strong dry Christmas cake.

I agree that dry Christmas cake is nasty. A good Christmas cake is so moist that it doesn't need icing, and a proper dark Christmas cake should be so soaked with alcohol that there is fireball danger if you burp

Definately not a fan! With so many other delicious foods out there, Christmas cake falls to the bottom of the list.
