Legendary character actor Harry Dean Stanton dies at age 91.

LOS ANGELES—Harry Dean Stanton, the shambling, craggy-face character actor with the deadpan voice who became a cult favourite through his memorable turns in Paris, Texas, Repo Man and many other films and TV shows, died Friday at age 91.

Stanton died of natural causes at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his agent, John S. Kelly, told The Associated Press. Kelly gave no further details on the cause.

Never mistaken for a leading man, Stanton was an unforgettable presence to moviegoers, fellow actors and directors, who recognized that his quirky characterizations could lift even the most ordinary script. Roger Ebert once observed that no movie with Stanton in a supporting role “can be altogether bad.”

Cut short at 53, one of the most original and talented Canadian voices on the World stage,
A part of my own personal memories when The Tragically Hip played here in Kelowna,
Always treasured,
You've inspired so many with a sound track of our lives.

It is with deep sadness that the Vinyl Cafe family announces that Stuart McLean passed away today, February 15th, 2017, at age 68.

To Fans of Stuart McLean:

Hi everyone, Vinyl Cafe Producer Jess Milton here again with lots of news. This is the time of year when we’d normally be hitting the road with our Vinyl Cafe Christmas Tour. It makes me think of Stuart. So, this season felt like the perfect chance to honour him. We have three ways to do that:

CBC Holiday Special
As I’ve mentioned before, we recorded our final Vinyl Cafe show in Thunder Bay, Ontario on November 22nd, 2015.

I’m delighted to announce that this December, CBC Radio will be airing that show – our final Vinyl Cafe Christmas Concert. The very last show that Stuart performed before he died.

The show will air three times on CBC Radio 1:

Sunday, December 17th@ 12pm
Tuesday, December 19th @ 11pm
Thursday, December 21st @ 1pm

Sad - inevitable but still sad. My favourite song of theirs is Thunderstruck - listening to it now. Love the guitar . . .
