Now they're among stranded travellers at Fort Lauderdale trying to recover what the airport director says are 25,000 pieces of luggage, cellphones and other belongings separated from their owners during Friday's shooting rampage.

"We have no IDs, we have no passports, no money," Janice, 39, said Saturday afternoon, wearing sandals borrowed from a brother-in-law. "We just had to leave our stuff and run."

It astonishes me that anyone would be left in such a situation. The baggage being confiscated is one thing but no money, no passports? Do you just leave your passport and money in your carry on luggage so that some unaware passenger can walk off with your bag? Money too?
I'm old school and travel with clothing with pockets that can accomodate passports and other documents.
And what the heck is anyone doing on an airplane with bare feet?
Waste not

Maybe she was wearing Flip Flops and lost them while running.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

From the sounds of it, their shoes were in the bus bin along with phones, and purses, wallets, and passports inside/on the way through the X-Ray machine. Pockets mean squat when you have to empty them into that bus bin.

I think when someone opens fire in your vicinity, fleeing for safety is more important than your belongings.
