Indian Restaurant on Leon or Lawrence?
Does anyone remember the name of the Indian restaurant that used to be downtown? It was on Leon or Lawrence. This was back in the 80s-90s. It had an outdoor patio and a tandoori oven. It became pasta place for a while, then briefly Senor Frogs.

Yup. That's the place. Waaaay before Dawett or any of the others in town. I keep thinking the name started with an "S".

I remember an Indian restaurant on Lawrence called Everest. It was very very good, they moved to West Kelowna some years ago.

Noooo. This was much longer ago. 1980s to 1990s. There was a courtyard and a balcony. The tandoori oven was in the courtyard. I think the building was painted blue at the time. After the Indian place closed, it was called Oodles (of Noodles), then it became Senor Frogs, and Finally, the Snooty Fox (before the business was burned under suspicious circumstances.)

Hmmm. Not sure. I wondered about that, but it doesn't sound right.

Shalimar rings a bell for me. I never went there though.
One thing that the library has or used to, is old phone books. They would have ads from the restaurant complete with address.

I'm certain it was Shalimar.
Had a big dallah (sp) outside in the front?
Or am I thinking of one a few blocks further east?

The Sports Page was in the 500 block of Leon and has been a few different eating places (Cush etc.) but I don't remember an Indian one being at that location (not that that means anything).

I remember the place well and think it was called Shalimar.
If the old grey matter remembers correctly it was Kelowna's first upscale Indian Resturant and they sure
did their cuisine justice.
The food and service was incredible and the ambiance was perfect.
I can recall people in Kelowna at that time being reluctant to try it in fears of "the food being too hot" and "not liking curry".
I was quite disappointed when it closed.
Thankfully Kelowna's palate and desire to explore new culinary experiences has grown since then.
