2018 Losses, notable or notorious

Post by Queen K »

Happy New Year everyone:

Once again, I am starting a thread for those celebrities and near celebrities, sports heros and famous for being famous who pass away this 2018. The past year was virtually unbearable we lost so many talented people. I'm guessing 2018 won't be any different.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Astronaut John Young, moonwalker and commander of first space shuttle flight, dead at 87.

NASA called Young one of its pioneers — the only agency astronaut to go into space as part of the Gemini, Apollo and space shuttle programs, and the first to fly into space six times.

WASHINGTON—Legendary astronaut John Young, who walked on the moon and later commanded the first space shuttle flight, has died, NASA said Saturday. Young was 87.

The space agency said Young died Friday night at home in Houston following complications from pneumonia.

NASA called Young one of its pioneers — the only agency astronaut to go into space as part of the Gemini, Apollo and space shuttle programs, and the first to fly into space six times. He was the ninth man to walk on the moon.

Ray Thomas of British rockers the Moody Blues dies.

The Moody Blues’ 1967 album “Days of Future Passed” is a prog-rock landmark, and Thomas’s flute solo on the single “Nights in White Satin” one of its defining moments.

LONDON—Ray Thomas, a founding member of British rock group the Moody Blues, has died at 76, months before the band is due to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His music label, Esoteric Recordings/Cherry Red Records, said Thomas died suddenly Thursday at his home in Surrey, south of London.

“We are deeply shocked by his passing and will miss his warmth, humour and kindness,” the label said Sunday. “It was a privilege to have known and worked with him and our thoughts are with his family and his wife Lee at this sad time.”

No cause of death was given, but Thomas disclosed in 2014 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Ronnie Wood makes the list for the first time. I guess we are getting to that day and age where the Rolling Stones will finally start being viewed as mortal.

Ronnie had lung cancer last year, and refused chemotherapy because it would mess up his awesome hair (and what would a rock star be without his hair), but by all accounts they cut it out successfully.
