STOCKHOLM—Ingvar Kamprad, the IKEA founder who turned a small-scale mail order business into a global furniture empire, has died at 91, the company said Sunday.

IKEA Sverige, the chain’s Swedish unit, said on Twitter that Kamprad died Saturday at his home in Smaland, southern Sweden. Later it said he died peacefully following a short illness.

Regardless what you think of politics of any stripe, Alzheimers is the worst disease I know.

Rest in Peace, Dave Barrett. Quite frankly given what I know how bad this disease can get, we treat animals better than people.

Dennis Edwards, a former lead singer of Motown pioneers the Temptations, died Friday at the age of 74. He was originally a member of the revered soul group from 1968 until 1977, rejoining for various reunions later. His voice was present on a string of hits, including "I Can't Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone." His family confirmed the news to CBS News.

Reg E. Cathey, an Emmy-winning actor known for his work on House of Cards and HBO's The Wire, has died at the age of 59.

The Wire creator David Simon announced his death in a tweet on Friday. He called Cathey a "fine, masterful actor" and "delightful human being."

"On wit alone, he could double any man over and leave him thinking," Simon wrote.

The award-winning musician and film composer Johann Johannsson has died.

His manager Tim Husom says Johannsson died Friday in Berlin at age 48. More details were not immediately available.

Johannsson won a Golden Globe and received Grammy and Oscar nominations for his score for The Theory of Everything. The 2014 film starred Eddie Redmayne as physicist Stephen Hawking.

The Iceland native also received an Oscar nominations for the 2015 movie Sicario.

Daryle Singletary, Nineties Honky-Tonk Singer, Dead at 46.

Singer-songwriter Daryle Singletary, whose stone-country vocals paired with unapologetically traditional tunes earned him a string of hits in the mid-Nineties, including "I Let Her Lie" and "Too Much Fun," died Monday morning at his home in Lebanon, Tennessee, east of Nashville. An official cause of death has yet to be determined. Singletary was 46.

Marty Allen, the bug-eyed comic who formed one half of the hit comedic duo Allen & Rossi, died Monday night in Las Vegas at age 95.

The Associated Press confirmed the news via his spokeswoman Candi Cazau, who said that he died from complications from pneumonia with his performing partner of 30 years and wife Karon Kate Blackwell at his side.

NEW YORK - Broadway star and five-time Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell has died. She was 61.

Her husband, actor and playwright Robert Emmet Lunney, says she died on Sunday at her Manhattan home following a long battle with cancer.

Vic Damone, whose mellow baritone once earned praise from Frank Sinatra as "the best pipes in the business," has died in Florida at the age of 89, his daughter said.

Victoria Damone told The Associated Press in a phone interview Monday that her father died Sunday at a Miami Beach hospital from complications of a respiratory illness.

Damone's easy-listening romantic ballads brought him million-selling records and sustained a half-century career in recordings, movies and nightclub and concert and television appearances.
