A wildfire is burning in the hills west of Falkland
A 15 hectare wildfire is burning out of control in the Dump Road area directly behind the Falkland Ranch west of Falkland.
Castanet reporter Daniel Hayduk says winds in the area are heavy and gusting. The fire is moving in a westerly direction towards town.
He says the fire is moving through the grass.
According to the B.C. Forest Service there are homes in the vicinity.

Carnes says 26 firefighters are en route along with heavy equipment.

A wildfire is burning in the hills west of Falkland
A wildfire, which burned for much of Thursday afternoon east of Falkland is under control.
The fire started shortly after 2:30 p.m. when heavy winds in the area knocked a tree onto some high voltage lines.
Brent Lipinski with the Falkland Fire Department says the winds whipped the resulting spark into a fire which grew in size to about 25 hectares.
The fire started in the Dump Road area directly behind the Falkland Ranch west of Falkland.
It grew to rank four at its worst.
While there are homes in the vicinity, Lipinski says there have been no evacuations.
Forest Ministry crews hit the fire hard from the air and are now dealing with hot spots.
There were no injuries and no structures were lost.

Everytime a fire starts, the media sounds like they're hoping for another 2003. This year is completely different than 2003. It never ceases to amaze me that the people who bring the news to us don't know anything.
