Once again conditions were much different, comparing 2003 & 2011 conditions is like saying a apple and a cantelope are the same thing.

I sincerely hope that you are right.

It will be over 2 weeks before this fire is considered fully 'Out.' Fires don't go out easy, especially if the weather doesn't help. Rain is not expected for the next 10+ days, along with hot conditions and winds, a flare-up is likely. Not trying to scare anyone, it's just important information to know.
Great job by firefighters though!

Re: Fire above Bear Creek
All depends on how deep down into the ground it was burning as to the amount of flare up and hot spots that will show up. The wildfire management branch shows it now in the mop up stage. So the crews will be working on cold trailing to check for hot spots and demobbbing the gear. Probably the most tedious and backbreaking part of wildland firefighting. Definately the least glamourous part of it.

Other than hot spots, this fire is pretty well contained. Good work fire fighters!! You saved Traders Cove and the campground!!
By the way, does anybody know if this fire burnt many trees, or was it mostly the forest understory?

The fire was crowning in the tree tops quite a bit on the first night, I'd say most of the trees it reached are dead. Very sad, it was a beautiful area.

Haven't seen a report about specific damage but it looks like the canyon area with the trails and wooden stairs was heavily burned through. That was a great place to walk.

The waterfalls in the area are beautiful for swimming and the trails were great for hiking, looks like they are cooked now. Very sad, aleast they saved the camp ground!
