Re: FIRST AID TENT
I woke to a stink and wet spot that wasn't mine.
My pooch is leaking.
ick
So...I've been reading up about anal leakage and what can cause it.
I'm not finding much.
I don't think she has in infection.
I smelled her dog food (Orijen) and found the bucket I keep it in smells fishy.
I failed to clean the bucket between fills last time.
I always (cept this time) clean it with soap and water before refilling.
Could it be rancid food causing the issue?
I've opted to stay home today to look after her.
It's not clearing up
She's still leaking.
I'm grossing out bad.
I have a hard time picking up her stools , but this...this is...hellish.
Three top sheets and two quilts so far.
This is a laundry day like it or not.
If she doesn't clean up her act (or it that *bleep*?) by morning I'm taking her in.
Ideas?
Should I be worrying as much as I am?
I can't imagine how bad I'd be as a parent to a child...<sigh>

I had a dog with a similar problem and she ended up having a bladder infection (from squatting in snow of all things I seem to remember). Wouldn't hurt to phone a vet and enquire.

Re: FIRST AID TENT
My first thought is the anal glands need expressing. My parents had a dog that always needed it's anal glands manually expressed. Usually the groomer did it.

If the dog is dragging their butt along the ground - I'd say anal glands too.

This was my thought too! We had this problem and the vet suggested that we increase fibre using all bran.

The anal leakage didn't gross me out, but manually expressing anal glands? *gag*

Re: FIRST AID TENT
no dragging
never been an issue before
just over 4 yrs old
she was out on loan Saturday night and apparently Sunday morning got into "what appeared to be just grass".
wondering what was hidden in that grass under the snow
just got her back from a rather brisk walk/hike and she dropped a bit of mud that looked normal...no issues there. Squatted fine...nothing 'milky' about her pee.
<sigh>
she seems to have let up a bit on 'puddling' (ACK!!!)
my hope is that 'it' is umm...passing?...yeah...passing.

Here's another site that may be of help. Is her belly sore at all?

Make sure whoever does it knows what they're doing - some think they do but actually don't. If the glands are impacted, your vet is the best choice.

Re: FIRST AID TENT
no sore belly nope
she seems to be just fine
perhaps a bit 'off', but that might just be pouting because of being out on loan
usually it takes a day or two for her to get back to normal after shared custody swaps so I can't attribute her moping to anything more
