Antler Chews?

Post by Olivia »

Saw these antler chews for the first time the other day at a store in Kelowna.
They look dangerous to me.
Any opinions?

My german shepherd loves them. They last a really long time so I love them. They do look like they would break teeth but they don't, they don't break off in chunks either.
perhaps the straight and narrow would be wider if more people used it

My pup has chewed on one for 3 weeks now. No broken pieces or teeth. You can also get ones that are cut in half lengthways, so doggie can get at the marrow. Better than a regular bone. ( just no meat on them ).

I've seen the ones that are cut length wise, but also saw ones that are just the tip of the antler. They are about 4 inches long maybe?
THOSE ones could quite possibly go down the dog's throat I would think.

Great - all 3 stores are just up the road. Grabbed a bag of 25 cow ears last week but no reason pooch can't have a variety.

I used to buy the pigs ears at Buckerfield's, but noticed that they were very oily/greasy, so I don't buy those any more.
Are the cow's ear's oily too?

Nope - the cows ears are awesome. Pooch loves them. Gave up getting him pigs ears years ago when studies showed pig ears had a very high chance of carrying salmonella.

A friend gave my pup an antler chew.. it was noisy and she managed to ding a wall with the end . In the trash it went.
She's delighted with her cow's ear - nearly the same size as her :/
