Phishers getting more brazen or stupider?

I've been both shocked and amused/bemused by the acceleration in phishing that seems to be going on over e-mail, but one we received just this morning broke me up.

It was from the "FBI" and it said simply, "Email back to us now for all your money that you sent to scammer." I responded immediately of course(!!)

That this stuff goes on and on would seem to indicate that they are successful sometimes in these schemes.
