Classified Contact messages
Anyone else little frusterated with the messages layout? I'm trying to sell my car and I have gotten a couple emails regarding it, but i was not notified at all. Usually they go into my hotmail then my blackberry would notify me and I can reply back within 5 mins, but took me a 12 hrs to realize I have messages.

I was having the same problem with not getting notified. This is the response I got from Troy at Castanet:
"We still send messages to your email. What's most likely happening is these messages are being flagged as spam by your email provider (hotmail, gmail, shaw, etc...) so I would suggest checking your spam/junk mail folder as well as your spam settings -- especially if you use Shaw.
I find Shaw is very aggressive with their spam filtering and the default setting is to delete all spam. If you are using them, I would suggest changing the setting from "Discard message immediately" to "Label message as spam". Just log into their webmail and go to spam section of the preferences/settings.
Because of the spam filtering done by some companies, we have added an extra feature to the classifieds where you can see the messages sent to you by clicking on the "messages" link like uwantit just posted."

Re: Castanet classifieds
I can appreciate the attempt to "modernize" the Classifieds, but i think it was a step taken too soon.
I don't use Ad-Blocker, and use both Firefox and Chrome, yet on either browser, from time to time, Ads don't show when clicked, sometimes a quick refresh fixes the problem, but other times i have to switch browsers.
Furthermore, i feel like i recieve less information from looking at the Ad, then i did with the old Ad.
The thing that annoyed me the most, and i guess that this is just a personal thing due to bad timing, i spent the night before the change over bookmarking all these Ads that interested me, and now they do open (most of them) but they display as if a new page, and i need to re-bookmark them.
Anyway, here is hoping that Tweeks can be done, like i said i appreciate the step forward, it was just a step too soon.

Re: Castanet classifieds
OK. THIS IS GARBAGE. CHANGE IT BACK. I HAVE 10-12 ADS RUNNING AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND I AM GOING TO REMOVE THEM. I PAY FOR A STORE IN THE CLASSIFIEDS. I'M GOING TO REMOVE IT. I DO A LOT OF PERSONAL COMMERCE IN MANY SECTIONS OF THE CLASSIFIEDS. THAT'S DONE UNLESS IT GETS CHANGED BACK.
Yes I was yelling. Sorry Roadstar. I couldn't help my temper again. If you have to ban me..... so be it. Farewell........
Seriously.... extremely poor format administrators. WTH did this come from????????? Terrible. Ugly. Repulsive.

I cant relist my ads for some reason, i click in the relist box and it just selects the ad. Clicking in the edit ad box beside it works just fine. dont really like the new classifieds format, might go to kiijiji instead.

Re: Castanet classifieds
lets face it, people hate change. humans are creatures of habit, dont change procedures on them.
on the other hand, castanet obviously didnt do any alpha and beta testing before rolling it out, or if they did, someone dropped the ball.
lesson learned= do a limited roll out on a beta page and ask for feedback.

Re: Castanet classifieds
Actually, dozens of people both inside and outside of Castanet did test it over the past couple of weeks. Obviously we will have to find better testers next time. *sigh*

The relist option is currently set up to only function if the ad is less than 4 days before expiring. It shouldn't really even be displayed until that time, but that's a whole other issue.
However, all that being said, the relist setup is being reworked to be more flexible than that and should be finished sometime during the day tomorrow.

Really? How did you go about finding the "outside" testers? Were they friends of Castanet or legitimately outsiders, with no connection to Castanet?
Not trying to grill you, Troy. I see how much you care about this because you reply to the questions asked of you. That alone shows that the site does want to hear from the users.

well thats good to hear, troy. but dozens of people, should be more like thousands, just sayin. maybe have a notice on the classified page letting everyone know there is a beta page and ask for feedback before it gets rolled out officially. i am sure the classified nutters would be happy to give their feedback...just look at all the feedback you are getting now!

Actually I dont mind change myself that much, usually once you see it and get used to it you do find it better,,, this one is not going that way yet. It doesnt even have the nice look that we had I think. Usually with this kind of thing, the new look looks better, to me this looks like a step back in a way. I wish I had been asked to test it out. The easy nav buttons we had on the old system was much easier to work with. I do my searches usually at night and this is harder to see, its just not as nice on the eyes either.

Re: Castanet classifieds
In hindsight, yes, there definitely should have been a public beta. The "outsiders" who helped with testing did include many classifieds users who were known to use that part of the site a lot. I, along with everyone else at Castanet, do care very much. I will continue to keep everyone updated and reply to your questions and comments as soon as I can.
