I'm not aware of any problems like that. Can you give us some more information? Do you get an error message? Feel free to email me directly if you have to troy@castanet.net

I think "cheating the system" is a very appropriate description.

A vendor who places an ad in the newspaper classifieds has no say over where in the column their ad turns up, at least not the last time I placed one which to be honest would be many moons ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if Castanet takes a dim view of this system workaround and was in fact trying to kibosh it ergo the changes.

I think that would be the lazy aggressive mans option, if you dont want to pay that price then you have to be on it to keep it ahead,,, its not cheating, there are a few options, list it, keep it coming forward or pay to keep it up front,,, why would it be cheating if all are allowed to do so? Its a dog eat dog world out there and you do what you do to sell. Some people list in several classified companies,,, we have our options and I dont see why we should judge on someones ability to find ways to do their thing. I dont move mine forward often but I have to get rid of something faster. If its open for me and the next person to do it then more power to us all.

The re-listing change is a change I can get behind!

I hated seeing that friggen "WE BUY USED COMPUTERS FOR $$$" ad refreshed every 6-12 hours. God damned bots. Not to mention the guy has 6-7 ads advertising the exact same thing with mild variations so he doesn't get removed.

The classifieds are terrible, the lay out, you can't look at latest posts, or at least i can't figure it out! I have been on Castanet since day one. Skimming the classifieds everyday - ( using last day feature ) Where is it?
EMAIL seller DOES NOT WORK - If u have an ad, and you can access or use someone else to reply to your ad. I tried I do not receive any replies through my email inbox or junk box. Where did they go? it said OK sent. HELP Castanet!

I can confirm that the email system for the ads does not work.

I have already had two ads whose renewal time has come and gone. Just for sh*ts and giggles, I let them pass that date, and have not received a single email requesting a renewal (prior to this, I always received a maximum of three, one for each day for the two days leading up to renewal and the renewal date itself).

And this isn’t a problem on my end -- I run my own iron, with my own mail server. I control, intimately, all the settings on that server. As well, I make use of Mailwasher to examine not only my regular accounts, but also the catch-all accounts and spam trap accounts on the server before I download anything to my own “daily driver” machine from which I handle my email through Thunderbird. This server does not dump anything until explicitly instructed to do so by me through Mailwasher.

And I haven’t seen a single damn email since the classifieds went to the new design.

Oh, and why do Lost & Found ads have “best offer” displayed???? One of my ads specifies a cat that I found, and am now hosting until either the owner comes forth, or space becomes available in the SPCA. I have no interest in selling the cat, so why does the ad specify that I am looking for an offer? That makes no sense whatsoever… and is clearly not well thought out. Why isn’t there a flag in the database structure that can be triggered by admins/designers for a particular category (like Lost & Found, or Free Items), so that price options are not available either in the backend (so users can’t enter a price) or in the front end (so “best offer” does not show up when a price is not entered)??

IMHO, there has been a distinct lack of forethought and no-stone-left-unturned planning put into this new design… You guys really need to have someone with high-IQ ADD (*ahem*) on the design team, prior to even a single line of code being written. That way, potential loopholes, omissions and facepalm-class oopsies can be thought of and handled during the design phase, rather than being handled as emergencies after the stuff goes live.

There is some one in the services section that has three ads all in a row, maybe he'll fill a whole page with the same ads. Put it back the way it was...this sucks.

Might stem from less users using the terrible redesign, and well... Maybe no-one wants your stuff.

I have now confirmed that emails are now coming in, both for renewals as well as for customer inquiries (had a friend with a Castanet account send me an inquiry).

And no, it wasn’t my system. If my server doesn’t even get an email meant for it, that means that email hasn’t made it off of the Castanet servers. If it comes into my server, my server holds it until I deal with it (and I have catch-all accounts for emails with addressing issues… even emails addressed to bogus recipients under domains that I own still get held until I can process them).

If it aint broke DONT FIX IT and this is what happens, way to go Castanet. Its been a nightmare right from the start, I and many others I am sure cannot even access their ads to do any editing or delete them once their item has sold. I have emailed and called Castanet numerous times regarding this issue and nobody replies back. Obviously they dont have a clue whats wrong. Castanet should have left things alone with the old format, it was easy to access your ads , edit , delete , relist them, etc without any issues.

Listed an ad today and just saw a spelling error. Went into my ads and edited it with no problems.
User error on your part maybe?

It's amazing the sense of entitlement some people feel over a FREE service.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.
