Instead of trying to deflect from the NDP malfeasance regarding their misuse of taxpayer funds, just admit that the NDP screwed up, and work on making them electable. Right now, they are trailing badly in the polls and look to be almost completely wiped out next election.

GB - you needs a refresher: http://www.ipolitics.ca/2013/04/30/more-conservative-mps-balk-at-trudeau-attack-pamphlet/

The Harperites have been doing this forever. At taxpayer expense.

And don't forget painting the official transport plane Tory Blue (ain't no blue in Canada's flag or colors) - that's how long the Harperites have been up to this malfeasance. And hundreds of millions spent advertising "economic action plans" and "job grants" that didn't exist - etc. ad nauseum.

Harper doesn't seem to understand that "talk softly and carry a big stick" is the best. Being an "all hat and no cattle" cowboy though, he seems to take the strategy "talk loudly, make threats, and carry a twig". Meanwhile we still don't have a decision to on replacing the aging F-18s, or proper care for our veterans.

What does Harper plan to do if Putin pushes the issue on Arctic sovereignty? Certainly can't rely on his little twig and and "friendship developed" with Vladimir. Oh I know, we will send a burning submarine up there to scare them off...

For a government that preaches but doesn't follow fiscal conservatism, one has to wonder why anyone needs any mail outs, as all government news is available online, and whatever is mailed, is certainly someone's propaganda.

Why not get rid of all mailings all together and save taxpayers a few million?

The Conservatives, as the current government, have sure dropped the leadership ball once again.

I second the motion on mailouts.

I never read them.

I agree with this. Jack Layton and his wife Olivia Chow always had the biggest expense reports of any MP's, by hundreds of thousands of dollars. Jack would lay the "blame" for his massive bloated expense reports on the cost of postage for his many mail-outs. As we've seen the NDP continue to abuse government money it is allotted by opening satellite offices and being dinged with continued fines, it is obvious that all parties are infected and to single out the Conservatives here, especially given all of the recent evidence of NDP malfeasance, seems a bit partisan, does it not?

This week, the federal NDP was asked to repay $36,000 to the government because 23 of its MPs sent almost two million pieces of mail last year to several ridings, including some facing imminent byelections.

As well, the NDP has been asked to reimburse Canada Post for the cost of the postage, estimated to be worth $1.13 million, for a total of $1.17 million.

The request was issued by the secretive Board of Internal Economy (BOIE), a committee composed of four Conservative MPs, two NDP MPs and one Liberal MP. The powerful closed-door committee regulates the expenditures of all MPs.

In its decision the board said the NDP used parliamentary resources for partisan purposes.

In this day and age, with electronic media readily available to all, I really don't see the need for ANY mail outs from ANY parties for ANY reason.

They could simply post the info on their own websites, or pay for an ad in one of the many online newspapers.

As far as I'm concerned ALL the parties have abused the mailing privilege at one time or another, so their pointing fingers at each other is a bit like "people who live in glass houses throwing stones". I really wish they'd all stop trying to gain political points in this way, because all their doing is making themselves look bad in the process.
