Secret ballot, is it or is it not so much

Each time I go to vote I notice those seated from either Elections BC or Canada. Write a number from ballot by my name tear off a piece & hand me the ballot.
As long as that same number is not on that ballot anywhere (or any other corresponding features), no problem but if it is then that nil & voids the whole secret ballot.
Funny each time I tell myself to check the ballot for that never do, just place my mark next to candidate of my choice.

In my opinion secret ballot should remain that secret, oh yes what I written above just over active imagination (lol).
