Muzza's post re ordered.

Poland 1.8
Canada 1.7
Netherlands -1.6
Finland - 1.5
Austria 0.9
UK 0.7
Germany 0.4
France 0.3

Moved Canada down to its proper spot, just for the optics.

How does Canada fare in comparison to the oil producing countries?

As the oil problems are short term, I don't see an issue.

But the topic originated on how poor Canada's economic performance had been in the past. I just pointed out how terribly wrong the poster was, and I simply highlighted how statistics can be used dishonestly.

I think you are confusing negative numbers with positive numbers. Negative numbers are smaller than positive numbers. My first post was correct.

Norway 2.9
New Zealand 2.5
US: 2.3
Poland 1.8
Canada 1.7
Austria 0.9
UK 0.7
Germany 0.4
France 0.3
Belgium 0.1
Ireland -0.3
Sweden -0.3
Denmark -0.7
Finland - 1.5
Netherlands -1.6
Spain -2.1
Italy - 2.3

Leftists think negative numbers are good, because it MUST mean that leftist governments are in charge!

Muzza, you're not dealing with the sharpest knives in the drawer here, so while your response was perfect, don't expect them to understand it. And furthermore, those numbers are for 2005-2009, so not nearly as relevant as the 2010-2014 numbers, which are really telling as to how Canada has been doing in comparison to some of the more socialist governments.

Look back further. I also posted the 2010-2014 numbers.

yeah I saw that. It's telling. Time for Norway to do some studying on what Canada is doing right, and they are doing wrong.

New Zealand 2.5
US: 2.2
Canada 2.0
UK 1.7
Poland 1.7
Sweden 1.5
Norway 0.6
France 0.3
Belgium 0.3
Ireland 0.2
Austria 0.2
Germany 0.1
Denmark -0.5
Netherlands -0.7
Spain -1.2
Finland - 1.2
Italy - 1.9

I've bolded the loser brigade. Germany would be doing so much better if they weren't saddled with all of that high cost solar and wind power. They really screwed up with their policy not to proceed with nuclear power. Dumb dumb dumb.

It is interesting to see that the nordic countries are dropping. To be honest, after living in Europe, I have been intrigued by the Nordic model, and have liked a lot of it and hoped that they could succeed. However, after following the progress of the Nordic model for over 10 years, I have seen the cracks steadily widening, and in fact, they are starting to adopt many of the North American policies.

I would love to see them strike a balance, and keep many of the good things they have, but cannot see that maintaining the high taxation rates will help them succeed. It will take time, but stifling innovation through taxation is a recipe for disaster.

I would like to see a balance struck too, but I think that they've let the Genie out of the bottle in Norway. They've got too many people addicted to social programs and their sick rates are ridiculous - their labour laws allow people to take weeks off at a time with no personal repercussions, and it's hard to function as a business when you have unreliable labour. They've forgotten how to work for a living in Norway. That's going to take an entire generation to correct, much like West Germany had to carry East Germany for over a decade while they shed their communist ways and learned how to support themselves instead of depending on a giant government nipple.

Greenie says

Aint that the truth. Of all the businesses I have owned, the most successful were the ones where there were no employees.
Have had up to 25 "workers" and watched all the money dribble away on payday.
The last biz was just me and my boss and we did quite well.
