Strategic voting pitfalls

Post by Rosemary1 »

We hear more and more of people planning to vote "strategically' based on polls, to influence election outcome. This can be a dicey and risky thing. Polls are not accurate predictors .

'Strategic' voting can result in election outcome that is the opposite of what was intended and undermines democracy.

Being as informed as one can be, and voting for the candidate we feel is best and want is the only way to reduce those risks and keep democracy working.

Disagree.

Startegic voting should not be based on polls but..

On whomever finished second in the last election.

In most cases it is the NDP candidate.

You can easily find him/her here..

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Results ... tion,_2011

Of course, some of the candidates have changed.

Only really dumb people who support the rapidly failing NDP are saying this. No one should vote strategically, they should vote for the party that they feel best represents their interests. The NDP is not that party, which is why they are tanking hard and fast. Good riddance.

It does not matter what party a voter wants in or out.

Vote for whoever you feel represents you best. Period. If voter wants to vote strategically for or against anyone, they can try it. They just need to be aware of the possible risks in achieving their objective regardless of who they favour or not. That's what original comment and this one are about. So keep references to NDP, Liberals, Green or Conservative supporters or haters out of this thread. That is not what it's about. geez

Again, strategic voting should not be based on rapidly changing polls.

See above.

Lv, you keep calling NDP supporters
Only really dumb people

Yet the Brock University study clearly demonstrates that the dumb people tend to be Conservative.

I would contend that the dumb people are the ones who don't vote. Now go out and vote!

Agreed , only a vote not used is wasted ..

Dumb to not vote strategically.

This , coming from G+... I'm not surprised.

"Strategic" voting only serves to elect what I call , the lesser of the thieves.

Vote with a conscience. Vote for who addresses the issues that mean the most to you G....

It is Conservative "drivel" that I am afraid of.

Strategic voting is essential or get Harper, again.

I do not belong to a union or any political party.

I have voted Green/ and Liberal.

Not this time.

Strategic voting is a plague not only in this country , but this province G..

It shouldn't come as any surprise to you that unions solicit votes for the NDP in this province through their monthly rags..

BCTF is the WORST... er best .. at that .
