Mr Prime Minister, many would like a flat income tax

Post by I Think »

Dear Sir, many people seem to be in favor of a fixed rate income tax, lets say 10% ( or whatever the number is) with a free pass for those making $1999 or less p/a and no loopholes or deductions.

There are many people who think that this would be a better way to equalize the disparity between the rich and the not so rich.
The CRA would have much less work to do, and Canadians would save money because they would not need so many accountants
Respectfully a Citizen.

I didn't know Prime Minster hangs out on Castanet forums.

What's his nickname here?

Is it Glacier?

Flat tax is a daft idea. Has not worked anywhere it has been tried.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

If I wasn't in favor of it before, I sure am now.

I'm surprised the OP is in support of the flat tax idea, as it is widely considered to be extremely "regressive" form of income taxation in comparison to the current graduated system.

I don't support a flat tax. There is no percentage that is fair to both low and high income earners. 10% is far too low for someone earning over $200,000 per year to be contributing to their country and 50% is far too high for some earning $30,000 per year. Having a tiered system based on income level just works better.

For once we are in agreement. I honestly can't believe I am typing this. My hands are literally shaking, as I know this must be a sign of the apocalypse. Now just wait for Atomoa to actually tell the truth in a post and I am starting work on that bomb shelter.

You had me at I agree with you. Let me know if you need help figuring out how to build that shelter. I'm more than just a pretty face. =)

Am not in support necessarily, but do know that the present tax system is a kluge, and keeps CRA workers and Accountants off the dole.
What I am against is all the loopholes and hidey holes that should be done away with.
