So we have a cabinet based on gender equality rather than qualification or best fit for each position.
This is ridiculous appointing a cabinet this way.
Why not appoint the best qualified for each position ? If it's 28 women and 3 men that are the most qualified then go with that, and if it's 28 men and 3 women then go with that
Appointing the way JR has done it may not give the people of Canada the most qualified candidates in each position and that is a disservice to the country.
Trying to please everybody instead of making the right choices is not a good quality in a leader.

Jean Yves Duchos for Families Children and Social Development? Not sure what qualifications an academic economist brings to this ministry.

If you are possibly looking at a plan to figure out how to cut funding to something a finance type person is often used, economic theorist is even better as grand plans will get invented with no ground level implementation realities ever considered. Government is already bad at that this could be worse...or maybe he will be better. It's still to early to know, but I agree it seems an odd choice.

social development could take a money wizard so it seems fine to me plus they all have helpers in the background doing the real work .

Money wizards are used for making cuts. What we really need is an actual wizard to make a magical change to the many failings of our system. Adding money won't fix it, nor will taking it away, it needs a far different view other than just dollars and cents.

Re: New Federal Cabinet - why some didn't make it

There were a few surprises.

Maybe some didn't want the post. Maybe some didn't pass the vetting process. Maybe some had to be bypassed to keep promise of ensuring regional representation and gender parity.

(Interesting tidbit, PCs had reduced their cabinet ministers from 29 in first term to 26 in 2nd term with 13 of the 26 headed by women- it just wasn't made a big deal or received that much attention) . Some ministers held more than one portfolio

Um. We have cabinet ministers for Womens Status, Indiginous People (new politically correct term it seems) Immigrants and Refugees, Families and Children.

Maybe we will soon need one for Seniors' Status (a fast growing part of the population). And maybe one for Men's Status- a group whose 'traditional' role in society is fast changing and may need some attention and help.
