Christy absent 70% of the time!

Why would you pay full time pay to someone who only showed up for work 3 days out of 10?

Premier Clark missing in action as NDP flays government

By Michael Smyth, The Province November 26, 2014

23

It’s been a rough ride at the B.C. legislature for the governing Liberals this fall, but Premier Christy Clark hasn’t personally absorbed much of the damage. That’s because she hasn’t been around to take the heat.

Clark, who once said she tries to avoid the “sick culture” of the provincial capital, has been a no-show at the legislature for 16 out of 23 days this session. (That’s the NDP’s unofficial tally, by the way, since they don’t keep official attendance records at the legislature.)

Clark has popped up in the people’s house on only seven days since the start of October and was missing in action again Wednesday, blaming fog for grounding her Helijet flight from Vancouver.

That had the New Democrats in mocking mode, pointing out that flights were back on schedule by noon and several other MLAs and cabinet ministers made it across the water to fulfil their democratic duties.

“It’s not Gilligan’s Island, it’s Vancouver Island,” said NDP Leader John Horgan, who expressed “profound disappointment” that Clark wasn’t around to take her medicine.

The NDP has had a field day against the Liberals this week, flaying the government for a bungled investigation into fired health-care researchers and roasting Advanced Education Minister Amrik Virk for his role in under-the-table executive payments at Kwantlen University.

But Clark hasn’t been at the legislature at all this week, leaving her cabinet ministers to take turns as the NDP’s question-period punching bags.

Clark’s office told me she had planned to come to the legislature Wednesday morning, but decided to work out of her Vancouver office instead after morning Helijet flights were delayed.

But isn’t it interesting that she did manage to make it over to the capital by Wednesday evening — just in time to light up the legislature’s Christmas tree, but not in time for afternoon question period.

.. snip...

Now that she’s finished her Christmas-tree photo-op, it would be nice to see her show up at the legislature today — the final day of a legislative session in which she’s done her best to be somewhere else.

Of course! The premier should be in Victoria 100% of the time and never head off on an airplane. And if she makes a big mistake and gets on a plane that's grounded because of fog she should assert her power as premier and order the pilot to take a chance and ignore the fog. LOL . . .

I always laugh at these people who think that the only time MLA's, and premiers in particular, actually work is when they're in the legislature. It's the same type of ignorance that we see from people who think that teachers only work when they're in classrooms in front of students.

The NDP has lost all credibility with this garbage. Is that the best they can do as the supposed government-in-waiting? Apparently so. It's not the sort of stuff that wins elections but the NDP and SOME posters on here still don't get it. Oh well . . .

She is 'supposed' to be the leader of this province and by dint of that fact, she had options available for her to get to the Legislature that morning - like maybe even taking a FERRY??? but instead:

But isn’t it interesting that she did manage to make it over to the capital by Wednesday evening — just in time to light up the legislature’s Christmas tree, but not in time for afternoon question period.

Apparently a photo op was way more important to her than showing up for a battering in QP.

No one expects the premier to be anywhere 100% of the time. To be absent from the legislature 50-70% of the time(given that the NDP may have the percentage wrong) is not fulfilling the duties of a premier in my opinion. There is a level of accountability that doesn't happen if she is not there to participate in the process of the legislature. The opposition parties are also elected and represent voters and their voices must be respected as they question and provide the counterbalance to the ruling party.
For me, this does come down to respect for the people and the people's governmental institutions.

I thought everybody wanted he to spend as much time as possible in West Kelowna and around province doing "real work", not sitting on her *bleep* in Victoria.

^And what kind of 'real work' has gone around in the province that has resulted in benefits and legislation that benefits us the taxpayers? Give me some concrete examples Capt.

The legislature is where the loyal opposition questions policies and processes in governance as put forward by the government of the day. Would you sooner have every government elected to power able to do whatever they wished without being questioned?

Then welcome to dictatorship.. but that is what seems to be holding forth at the federal and provincial levels when people simply accept and acquiesce to WHATEVER the government of the day puts forth.

That just might be the most ignorant remark I've read on these forums this year. It shows a complete and utter lack of understanding of what "work" means when it comes to the premier and to MLA's in general. Meeting with constituents, leading trade missions, meeting with business and labour leaders, participating in cabinet meetings and caucus meetings are all integral to the job and most certainly those activities qualify as "work." To suggest that time spent away from the Legislature is the equivalent of not showing up for work is, as I say, ignorant. As I pointed out earlier it's the same type of ignorance that we see in those who tell us that teachers only work from 9 until 3 because pro-d days, preparation, marking, and planning aren't real work. Ignorance . . .

As a constituent who every day is extremely happy that BCTF stooge and NDP nut burger Carole Gordon is NOT my MLA, all I have to say is Go Christy go. If the brain dead leftist psychopaths are complaining, you are doing something right.

Well, when you can't make an actual point there are not a whole lot of options left open to you.

Your focus, and that of the NDP in general, certainly helps keep the Liberals in power. I have many bones to pick with the Liberals but as long as you're talking about "photo-ops," Christy Clark "not working" when she's not in the Legislature, using planes to travel etc. you're just helping to re-elect the Liberals. Keith Baldrey has made some good points on Twitter about the feeble performance of the NDP in the Legislature this session so I think the premier is wise to have spent much of her time working elsewhere.

excellent summation as usual Urbane. As per usual you are preaching to a bunch of NDP supporting idiots, and as they always demonstrate, when you can't make an actual point there are not a whole lot of options left open to you.

Keith Baldrey is Christy Clarks personal lapdog. He's just another Glowball puppet news reader for the Liberals.
His opinion is worth about as much as the moronic brain dead righty supporters on this site. The only way to support the Keith and the Liberals is if your dumb deaf and blind and suffering from dementia.
