Lock 'em all up, eh? Some of you on the far left should learn about tolerance and should show some respect for the opinions of others. You certainly don't help your cause with these bigoted statements.

Try comparing apples to apples . If a trans person that wants to aplly for job and puts on the apllication trans she supported ignoring that and wanting to say he or she .its about respect and inclusivness. Its got zero to do with you using he or she .

Thats dumb argument queen . Freedom of speech doesnt include hatecor intolerance. That what lead to the rise of hitler . Jews being thought of less than equal .

Good grief! You want to lock someone up who doesn't like gender-neutral pronouns and you compare him to Hitler? I'll just let your post speak for itself. No more comment necessary.

Ummm, he, she, him, her, his, hers <---------------using these is exactly the same as the what lead to gas chambers and ethnic cleansing? Using language norms such as pronouns is "free speech"?

MJ, I can't wrap my head around using gender neutral terms such as "ze". But if someone trans applies to a job they are qualified for and can give the company or organization what they need, what the h difference does it make?

Campuses have become nuts. Diversity now means no diversity of opinion at all. Even Steve Martin dressing up as King Tut gets students TRIGGERED!

I see no issue with gender neutral pronouns. Languages evolve over time. We add new words every year to the dictionary. English has been lacking a pronoun that doesn’t imply gender.

Currently in instructions, legalise, other literature etc we need to use “him or her”, “he or she”, “his or hers”. Having single words that can replace this clunky language is a good thing. Likewise when referring to someone and not wanting to specify gender, you need to use “their” however this does not convey singular or plural, so this helps in accuracy of speech. This all follows the natural evolution of language.

Omnitheo, MJ - I actually get what the argument is for a minority within a minority to feel included, we must evolve the English language and work on the pronouns.

Anything else is tantamount to exclusion and hate speech, nazi-like even. This is how it all started.

In the meantime there's a vast majority of people who do not identifiy as gender neutral. In English, we use "it" for inanimate objects. Using "it" on a person is completely unacceptable, the same as using "he" for a transgender male who identifies as a woman.

I have no problem address her as her. None.

But take a masculine male, a man who identifies as man, and call him "ze"? To make a minority happy? No. They don't get to dictate to the man that he can't be called "he", "him" or have objects referred to as "his."

Both of you seem to make the argument otherwise, he has to subvert himself to a minorities wishes.

Or do you wish to refine this further? MJ, "he" does not infer "hate speech." Can we keep Godwin's Law out of this?

Ze shouldn’t be offensive. A man could be called he or ze. Either would be acceptable. If you don’t know, then ze can suffice.

It’s the same as how I have an actual name, but I can also be called “sir” in absence of that information. I don’t take offence if I’m called by a generic pronoun.

I don’t know everyone’s gender here, so I’ll stick to using the gender neutral pronouns that are part of our language.

now watch the usual PC dumb-dumbs come on here and accuse this poor TA of "hate". It's textbook, and exactly why Trump won.

For men, the use of "ze" may throw into doubt his masculinity, or that the speaker is doubting it.

What if he's offended? He doesn't count?

The main issue here is censorship on campus. If people want to use gender-neutral pronouns go for it but don't expect me to follow suit. And don't bring down the authority of the university upon those who dare to question the mandating of gender-neutral pronouns. I really wouldn't want to be attending university these days. There seem to be a bunch of narrow-minded bigots in charge and they're not interested in diversity and inclusivity at all. Quite the opposite.

Yes. The total melt-down on US and Canadian campuses the day after Trump won just shows how bad things are on university campuses these days. The powers that be have created perfect Orwellian universes where GroupThink is all that is allowed. Just unbelievable.

I could see shades of it happening when I attended OUC in the early 90s.

A history professor was teaching about fascism, nazism, and the like, you know, how the philosophies arose and how they differed and were alike. So after a class on nazism we all went onto our next class.

The next history class an odd thing happened. He prefaced the start of his class with how he got a call from the dean to ask him why he's teaching nazism to his students. See, someone called and complained that he's teaching us to be nazis.

Yup. Someone couldn't tell the difference. As one of the older students in the class, I got it right away. Looking back, that's when the lack of critical thinking really began, the 90s.

That's why say to Rwede that the genesis of this phenomena has nothing to do with Justin Trudeau, or any government for that matter. But that's just my observation.
