Welfare.

Postby Jflem1983 » Dec 21st, 2017, 9:01 am

Lets get rid of it completely for men ages 19 thru 50.

Lets get people out fishing for food if need be.
Can not believe how many ppl are on the dole.

Every welfare day. Overdoses spike. Some will suggest this is just coincidence. I say BS.

When i drive by the welfare office. Its always men young men lined up. *bleep* ?
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

Oh Jflem, you really should have waited till after Christmas to make this post, people are going to think I’m a big Grinch with my reply, or at least come by my place and we can sit in my garage and discuss it behind closed doors. LOL

Bring back the system where they need to go and work for food stamps.

With all the help wanted ads online and in the windows of businesses there is no reason for young people to be abusing the system or lining up at the food bank taking food out of the mouths that really need it.

When I met my wife, 17 years ago, she had up to 3 part time jobs and was riding her bicycle through the winter to get between jobs in EDMONTON.

Awesome idea. All those young men with mental or physical impairments which prevent them from working can go starve. Who cares about them.

I would prefer to see a system where someone works and welfare supplements their wages to a level where they can afford to live rather that just a hand out.

There is not enough incentive to get people to work when they can sit around and do nothing and get more money than if working.
The fact that Jellyfish have survived for 650 Million years with no brain gives hope to many people!

Back when women with children did not 'have' to work until children were in school, things were much, much different. They actually INTERVIEWED people as step 1 of the application process. I'd become a single mother at a retail job and needed $300/mo to top-up my $750/mo daycare (retail hours). That was all I needed. No, it was not possible. Instead, I was to quit my job and receive $900/mo to sit on my duff. Needless to say, I did not quit. I was incensed, the social worker agreed with my assessment of the system.

It does not make sense to run it the way it is..... However, there are benefits to be had in the form of rental assistance, etc, but a person has to have great organizational skills and be good at paperwork to access them. <---not exactly the description of the kind of people who end up requiring 'BC Benefits'

The term welfare is a sorely-outdated term that is now use most commonly for the sole purpose of provocation.

Singapore had a good system. Likely still do.

If u needed it. The government would feed u house u etc. However u had to clean up the streets and sidewalks.

Singapore is known as a very clean safe city.

I believe it should work on some sort of 50-50 system. I'll try to explain.

You go in and apply for welfare and get approved for 1000.00 a month. Then you get a part time job that pays 600.00 a month. You would get to keep 50% of your earnings. In other words your welfare would drop to 700.00 and you would end up with 1300.00. Earn a 1000.00 and keep 1500.00 and so on. It would give people incentive to take almost any job to better their life. Could something like that work and help people to get off welfare?
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes their way.

If you have a mental of physical impairment you should not be on welfare you should be on disability.

Your post is out of context and shows your lack of understanding.

People lump all the different terms together + in order to get on Disability one needs to be on Social Assistance for a set period of time. Eliminating "welfare" would eliminate the first step to receiving a Disability designation.

Perhaps instead of strangely calling me out the OP could be clearer about what he thinks should be done with people who cannot work? Should they be denied all forms of assistance and be out fishing as per the words in the original post?

You are aware Welfare & BC Disability are 2 totally different things, even though they are run out of the same office. Which impo is wrong, disability should be under healthcare not lumped with welfare.
When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people around you, it’s probably time to change the people around you.

While the research shows that people with right-wing views tend to be less intelligent than those with left-wing views,
the continued excuse-making and support for Donald Trump indicates researchers have underestimated by how much.

Even people who receive disability funds have to stand in line for service.
People also stand in line because they are eligible for benefits but need to pick up their cheque in person for various reasons or meet face-to-face with a financial assistance worker.
Not everyone who is eligible to receive disability funds, receives it. It is quite the process to qualify and many are actually too disabled to follow the process! Of course one part of applying for disability funds is to have a physician complete a section of an application booklet. You need to have a doctor to do that! Walk-in clinic doctors usually will not do that as they don't know the patient well enough.
Not every man aged 19 to 50 is employable. Some work is seasonal.
Yes, some use money to have a high old time, a day or so a month.
Others pay for shelter and purchase food.
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

After the last failed war on welfare recipients in this province it became very clear that is only a very small percentage who actually abuse the system. Never underestimate the influence of the availability heuristic. Propaganda specialists don't.

For what its worth i tried to put this thread in the bickering room. It is purely to create an argument. I did not realize that both welfare and disability were handled out of the same office. That still doesnt explain wgy its mostly men my age standing in line . It does make me realise i was probably being a jerk with my original post . Thats something i am known for :D
