Created by the NDP and run by the current NDP. What does that tell you?

Then why was OP going to ICBC yesterday to complain about orange sticker? I don't know for sure, but I think my plate sticker is orange and it is good until middle of 2018.

I guess another way around it is to keep a dirty vehicle. Soap is supposed to hasten the break down of the orange dye.

The ones issued in 2018 that expire 2019 are yellow..the orange ones are all issued in 2017 and can varie when expired: January 1st to December 31 2018.
Car soap doesn't hasten the dyes breakdown usually. The problem is the ink used (the black writing) is not staying off.. Its pretty much like using a permanent marker on kiddy cups.. It washes off. The problem is the ink was improperly made and has a reaction with car soap that doesn't happen when the ink is made properly. As for me, I'm not going to ruin my paint by keeping my vehicle dirty for some sticker.. As far as I'm concerned if you are in 1 year contract, having decals either last that term or be replaced for free is considered "implied" as part of the bc consumers act.

I did a little checking, this isn't the first time ICBC has had a problem with decals.

http://www.bcpl8s.ca/Decals.htm

I also recall the very first year (1970) that ICBC issued decals. Some genius got the idea that they could save money by making all the decals without any IDing number, so there was no link from the decal to the actual vehicle or number plate.

ALSO, the decal and plate (which in 1970) all expired on 28 Feb 1971, did not have an expiry date.

Not a big deal, for those driving in BC, ICBC could inform the police,,,, BUT, imagine getting pulled over in the USA. There were some problems.

Appears ICBC has been willing to replace these fading decals free of charge in the past. Maybe at $18 a shot they need that money to try to balance the books.

For all the drama involved, if you can produce insurance papers that are valid, you will not get a ticket. And as my5cents stated clearly, no other ticket applies if your plate is clean and unobstructed.

Now those stupid Cambodian Tire smoked licence plate covers...who has one of those [icon_lol2.gif]

From the provided link:

Disappearing Ink - 2017 Decals (and 2018 Decals!)
According to a Bulletin released by ICBC on February 6, 2017, the ink is "fading" on a small batch of decals and motorists who find themselves affected are being encouraged to come in for free replacements.

<snip>

For posterity, we have archived a copy of the Bulletin No. 17.

That bulletin seems to contradict everything that has been suggested thusfar in this thread:

  • ICBC has notified Autoplan Agents as well as law enforcement of the issue
  • ICBC customers can go to any autoplan agent to receive a new decal without charge.
  • Law enforcement has been instructed to relay the above information
  • The printer used has been notified that the ink used does not meet the quality standards expected.
I'd like to change your mind, but I don't have a fresh diaper.

Say what you will about those, but they do keep the plate protected and clean. I cringe every time I see a nice, new, shiny car with cracked, faded and gummy plates - yech!

As for the stickers, if mine starts fading - not my problem - I could careless.

This wasn't worth creating a new topic, but it's related to plate problems.....

A buddy was over and we were putting something in his trunk and I saw that the paint on about a 1/4 of his rear plate had peeled off. You could see the galvanized metal that was below the paint.

I mentioned it and he laughed.

He went in to BCAA (in Penticton) and backed up in the parking stall in front of the office. He was dropping something off for his sister in law, who works there. While he was there he pointed out to one of clerks that the paint was peeling right off the plate. She said he could probably get a replacement. He told her that he had to go, but the plate expired later in the month so he'd be back.

Instead she asked her boss and cleared it, that he would get the replacement free. As he walked away, she stated "yes, we may even replace the front one too". He stopped in his tracks and explained,,, "the RCMP would likely have a problem if I had a different plate on the rear, than the front".

For gosh sakes check all the details when you renew your insurance.
