I just remembered something about Dan Ashton.

Before Dan Ashton got elected, he made a deal with the newspaper to get his picture on the front page more often
than all other mayors of Penticton added together for the last fifty years. Dan was always shown with
normal average poor people. I wonder if he would have been elected if he was always shown with wealthy people.

And all those construction workers that Dan cares about so much - they don't mind the 2% tax on the rich.
Ukraine is broke, and undertook a war on that portion of the country that provided 30% of GDP. Now a draft, for an army, for a war, for a government that will - get this - implement IMF/EU *austerity*.

as always, a simplistic apology is provided when a new tax is implemented, without any thought of the unintended consequences. What else is new.

My word I now have to keep checking his feed because the comments are terrific. My fav so far

Thanks for the vote of confidence, normaM. I've grown accustomed to the boorish comments on these Castanet forums. I sometimes get together with friends and we read them together. They are an endless barrel of laughs, especially on these long winter evenings.

^^ Don't let it go to your head. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.

If Castanet has proven anything at all, it's that the lunatics cling to each other like as though crazy glued together. Crazy being the adhesive!

I too have had enough of the bullying like behaviour. Just because we don't check in here all the time, doesn't give you the rights to be dicks to other members.

I strongly suggest that people stick to the topic and not forum members. It's time to grow up.

It's not so much not liking the posts, it's not liking the blatant lies, to sell a really horrible agenda. Blatantly, constantly and un-apologetically lying is just so un-Canadian, it is one of my triggers. I guess telling giant whopping lies, triggering people, and then getting together with friends to laugh about it is something that some people do, but I doubt that people that do that have many friends, unless they are counting the five cats they live with as friends.

Sure, but who the :cuss: are you to determine that ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY whose opinion is different than yours is a liar, and ABSOLUTELY every concept or link to an article you disagree with is a lie. It’s really ignorant, possibly even libelous, to call someone or something a liar or a lie without providing proof to back it up, something you never do.

Who said anything about absolutes?

I've seen plenty of posters here acknowledge their mistakes with "I stand corrected" or "I hadn't realized that" or "I'd never thought of it that way" or some such. These people are clearly more concerned about sharing the truth than they are about people seeing them, personally, as "always right", and that (IMO) boosts their credibility considerably. GB happens to be one of those posters, and although it's difficult to think of GB as humble ( ), this trait of humility is essential to anyone, politician or forum poster, who is concerned with integrity.

Posters who routinely get it wrong and usually compound this by refusing to acknowledge their errors, but instead keep plowing ahead repeating those same errors over and over, can't expect others to sit back and ignore when their posts are intentional misrepresentations or blatantly untrue. If politicians or forum posters wanted to be respected, they'd do their best to stick to the truth and acknowledge when they (very humanly) make a mistake. Anyone consistently more concerned with "pushing their agenda" or "saving face" than with their own personal integrity reaps what she sows.

This is where I lost any respect for Ashton during the school closure process, when he talked out both sides of his mouth and threw the trustees under the bus to save face. It was patently obvious he didn't want to admit the truth and didn't have the courage to lead the people of Trout Creek. IMO, anyone that unconcerned with integrity shouldn't be involved in politics.
