Shows new fundraising rules (no corporate) plays to NDP strength: many more smaller donations received by that party (almost double that of BC Libs). #bcpoli

No fundraising required.

The BC NDP/LEAP are so atrociously stupid that they are handing millions of campaign $$$ stolen from taxpayers to the next governing party.

No real campaign will be necessary either, as except for Dix and Mungall, the BC NDP/LEAP are royally screwing up everything they touch. All the Liberals, or if PR Liberals and Conservatives have to for the next election campaign is print simple bumper stickers "We ain't those idiots" and they win by a landslide.

The BC NDP/LEAP can't even get their attempt to rig the election system right... they should change their name to reflect their abject incompetence. NIP, sounds about right - the New Incompetent Party.

Any rational idea why the NDP gained more individual donations than the BC Liberals?

^^ of course, the BC NDP have slaves that give them money because... well... because, you, know, they are the NDP. No rational reason, therefore rationality does not prevail, as it never does in your posts.

Only the greedy NDP are milking their donors to pay for past incompetence. They have no choice because they owe money everywhere, and even sold off their headquarters to offshore investors...

The BC Liberals aren't fundraising because they don't have to. They weren't incompetently run and bankrupt like the BC NDP thieves were going into the last election.

The next election campaign will be simple and cheap. Voters will desert the party of complete incompetence - the BC NDP - in a big hurry. Once the people that voted for the NDP shysters get a taste of the 1990s idiocy of hopeless Horgan and his band of thieves, they will dump them like the road apples they are.

You actually mean that the NDP are holding guns to the heads of all these individuals and FORCING them to hand over $$ in donations?

^^ nope. You are obviously dead scared that your favorite party - the hopelessly incompetent loser NDP - needs to out fund raise other parties - or as usual they will lose the election - just like the last one where they overspent themselves into serious financial trouble. But it doesn't matter. No amount of money, not even the stolen taxpayer million$, will save these incompetents from the wrath of the voters. Every day that passes, Horgan and crew mage to screw something up royally - like they just really annoyed 75% of the construction workers in BC...

That explains your obsession with the BC LIberals.

Of course, the BC Greens are also a problem for the hopeless BC NDP - they are being given gobs of stolen taxpayer $$$ as well - and didn't come out of the last election bankrupt like the incompetent BC NDP/LEAP. Weaver will strip the BC NDP/LEAP back to the BC NDP - which will leave them really off in the wilderness. He is already setting up the BC NDP for attacks as socialist ideologues - which they are.

last i checked the NDP is in power. so how are they losers? you on the other hand sound like a sore loser that your morally bankrupt liberal party couldnt keep the party going any longer. i guess that is what happens when you are a party that doesnt care because they think its all in the bag. voters get apathetic as well and caused the turnaround that happened. like the title says - they just were not impressive anymore. no lng. overruns on infrastructure. casino corruption. public worker deaths because of callus handling of the file. email scandals that were far worse than a time stamp change of a memo. selling of public lands and portfolio on the cheap for donors. slap on the wrist for polluting mining companies that were donors. the list can go on and on with 16 years of *bleep*. and yet you and your right wing nut jobs want to make things seem so dire because the ndp is in power and doing a good job. for voters of a party that set the bar so low - its baffling how you can expect such excellence from the winners at the moment. give them 16 more years and we can compare notes.

^^ don't be daft. They lost the election ... and then in typical sleazy BC NDP fashion usurped it by striking a sleazy backroom deal with the lying weasel Weaver.

That garbage was compounded by an egregious error by the LG - and so we have the pretenders, the know nothing pretenders, raiding the public purse with their sticky fingers to pay for the incompetently run and bankrupt excuse for a party - the BC NDP/LEAP.

Look it up! Horgan is on the list of premiers as "appointed" - not elected - because the BC NDP were not elected. They are illegitimate.

The BC NDP have not won an election since 1996 - when they lost the popular vote but eked out a win.

Dave Barrett was elected. Mike Harcourt was elected. But not this bunch of know nothing sleazebags. Horgan wasn't even elected to lead the NDP - if you can call what Horgan does "leading" - he wouldn't know what real leadership is if it smacked him in his silly smirking face.

And all you got is "16 years". The only retort of the red hat dippers when faced with facts. Well the real number is 22 years - since the BC NDP won an election - and it will be another 22 years or more after people understand the ramifications of what these undemocratic little thugs have done and are doing.

Kids in care dying - dozens left alone in hotel rooms despite denials from BC Liberals.

Mr. Gervais was also placed in a hotel, despite assurances given to Ms. Turpel-Lafond preceding his death that no children would be placed in hotels as a result of 23 group homes in the region being closed. Mr. Gervais had been one of 33 youths living in those homes before they were closed earlier this year. His death thrust the question of hotel placements – which Ms. Turpel-Lafond had flagged as a serious concern in a May report on the death of another child in care – further into the spotlight.

^^ record opiod overdoses, record number of social services complaints to the ombudsman. Those are current, under the pretenders in the NDP, not in the distance past.

Either way, it is peanut chucking. If policy is not followed by the thousands of unionized civil servants, each individual transgression is not the fault of policy makers, other than the fact that the union contracts are poorly written - but that really comes back on the public who won't tolerate what is sometimes needed - a lock out or strike.

Anyway, we were discussing fundraising, not the usual nonsense BC NDP peanut chucking attack points memos from the past.

Interesting that many of the top NDP donors turn out to be their own staff and officials. 68% in Alberta.

Beyond that, the BC NDP did what they thought was a clever gerrymander on campaign finance, by stealing taxpayer $$$ to pay for political parties - because their own was incompetently run and bankrupt. That disgusting hypocrisy and anti-democratic move is backfiring on them. Voters are very annoyed and the competing parties, who did not have to borrow money for the last election the BC NDP lost, are way ahead of the game for the next election.

The BC NDP in their greed and incompetence have destroyed their own natural advantage. Yup, shooting themselves in the foot again. They do have an advantage with individual small donors. If that is your advantage, the smart thing to do is what the Alberta NDP did - drop the donation limit, ban corporate and union donations, place limits on third party interference, and provide no other source of funding.

There is also a limit as what $$$ raised does for campaigning. Yup, you need a minimum, but it isn't as large as what many think. Demonstrations of competence, message, quality candidates, quality platforms - they all matter just as much.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/grenier-riding-associations-fundraising-1.4739283

"Having a well-stocked war chest is better than the alternative — but it's no magic bullet.

Going into the 2011 federal election, the Bloc Québécois had $3.1 million in assets parked in its riding associations. By comparison, the NDP's associations in Quebec had just $129,000 in assets between them — and a sixth of that was in Tom Mulcair's riding in Outremont, the only seat the party held in the province at the time.

By the end of the campaign, the Bloc fell from 47 to four seats in Quebec and the NDP went from one to 59."

And then, of course, in usual NDP fashion - they dumped Mulcair. That is the puzzlement of the NDP, they can't stand even modest success.

Anyway, what the BC NDP/LEAP have set up is that the other parties don't even have to fund raise, and they will have plenty for the next election. Meanwhile, the BC NDP/LEAP are fouling up one thing after another, plus breaking one phony promise after another, plus committing the same sins they castigated others for. Those chickens will come home to roost and they will get thumped in the next election regardless of fund raising, electoral system, or any of the other gerrymandering scams the BC NDP/LEAP are trying.

That's an easy answer: the NDP is more crooked and corrupt and accepts more bribes than the B.C. Liberals.
Tax. Borrow. Spend. Justin Trudeau's platform is raising taxes and accumulating another $94,000,000,000 in debt.

Gosh, will this Liberal/NDP battle never end? The comments get more vitriolic as the thread progresses. Why do some people hate the other Party so much? (And that applies to BOTH sides).

It's always been my experience that BOTH parties have some good ideas, and some very bad ideas. And so when deciding which one to vote for, I weigh in my mind which Party has the most ideas I can support. But that doesn't mean that I agree with everything they want to do; far from it. There are always aspects of their platform that I vehemently disagree with.

This blind obedience to whichever Party you favour, accompanied by an apparent hatred for all who support the other Party, makes absolutely no sense. Because NO political Party deserves that kind of loyalty IMO. They all have their flaws, and should all be judged on their individual policies, rather than on a blanket like or dislike of the Party as a whole.

When the Libs were in power, there were some things they did that I approved of. And some things they did that I strongly disapproved of. One of the latter being the loose election financing laws, that gave BC the dubious title of being the "political wild west". It was obvious that the reason the Libs allowed that disgraceful condition to continue, was because they benefited from it. And the NDP were right to put a stop to such blatant bribery by wealthy corporations (and unions).

That said, I don't approve of the forced donations (via the tax base) either. I understand the logic, elections are expensive and if we, the public, want to ensure the various Parties are able to conduct an open and fair process they're going to need money to do that. I do understand that. But using our money to fund political parties we may not approve of, always leaves a bad taste in my mouth. IF the Government feels such public funding is an essential part of the democratic process, they should put the idea to a referendum conducted at the same time as the next election. By letting the people decide, the process will become a truly democratic one, and the argument will be over.
