The scope of the Venezualean tragedy is breathtaking.

I note a lot of similarities between the caravan going to the USA and those escaping Venezuala.
Here I thought there was nothing lower than a snakes belly in a rut in a ditch. I was wrong.

Exactly why USA needs to keep em out. These people have no morals. They voted for socialism. It is a democrat ploy to water down strong states like Texas. So sad.

The Venezuelan people. Need to rise up and overthrow Maduro. Plain and simple. Free Venezuela. End socialism world wide. No reason worlds oil richest country should be a starving hell hole . The only thing capable of such destruction is socialism

After working for 3 weeks with TFWs. We can not do enuff to keep em out. They have no future at home. No future here. Shame on Canada allowing the exploitation of our own labour force and the pimping of foreign labour in order to gut our own wages .

The American people are barely hanging onto the rights God bestowed on them. They certainly do not need a bunch of mindless democrat voters sneaking into the country ruining Texas

Did anyone notice the terrible math in the article i linked . 2700 miles is far greater than 3400 km. Not sure what kind of KM. AP is using .

Hey nice signature Alien :D

650 more fleeing today. Walking away from socialism. Gues the #walk away movement has legs after all. Get out while u can. Remember people in 97 Venezuelans were free. Wealthy. Employing foreigners. Look at em now. Took 20 years. That is socialism.

Socialism has killed more people than anything i can think of .

Seriously? More than disease? More than old age? You're really not thinking about this that hard.

By the way, how many deaths do you attribute to socialism (not communism, by the way, but socialism) and how many to capitalism and where are your sources for such numbers?

You are splitting hairs. Do you have any links showing Venezuela to be the paradise you wish it was.

I don't claim it to be a paradise and while I wish it were so, such a wish has nothing to do with their political system. I wish the US was such, I wish Canada was such, I wish everywhere on Earth was, but nowhere is.

Anyway, where are your numbers and sources? Hell, include communism if it makes you happy, but I'm assuming that you are careful to apply similar standards to communism, socialism and capitalism attributed deaths.

Give me the criteria. As in, do you mean killed by a capitalist regime, killed by a capitalist, killed by believing in capitalism, killed because of shortcomings in capitalism, etc.?

ETA: Capitalism, as a concept has killed nobody, just like all other concepts I can think of, including communism, fascism, pastafarianism, etc

Throw in "killed by not being able to afford life saving healthcare" and there are millions of Americans who have stories about people who are now dead.

With that kind of approach, deaths due to starvation, inability to afford healthcare, shelter, etc. during the Great Depression, many of the massive starvation events in Africa, the killing of the Jews during the Holocaust, since such was enabled by capitalist owned businesses, etc. The numbers dead would be staggering on the side of capitalism if that's the kind of low bar we applied. Though the same would be true of communism too. If we went down that road, it would be a Sisyphean task to get anything which comes close to the truth and it would require so many very contentious decisions as to have little arguable validity. For instance, do we consider the USSR to have been completely communist because it still relied on a market based economy? Or, how do we divide up deaths in countries where capitalism and socialism are combined to some degree?

Personally, I would be very hesitant to make such bold claims about which ideology has resulted in more deaths as I don't have enough information to do so, and I think such is true of most people making such claims too.

Ok. If socialism was so great. Why do Cubans swim to Miami. Why did no one demand into the USSR.

Appear socialism and communism is interchangeable. Just depends on spin

Cuba had a number of communist and anarchist organizations from the early period of the Republic (founded in 1902). The original "internationalised" Communist Party of Cuba formed in the 1920s. In 1944, it renamed itself as the Popular Socialist Partyfor electoral reasons. In July 1961, two years after the successful overthrow of Fulgencio Batista and the creation of a revolutionary government, the Integrated Revolutionary Organizations (ORI) was formed from the merger of:

Fidel Castro's 26th of July MovementThe Popular Socialist Party led by Blas RocaThe student-based Revolutionary Directoryled by Faure Chomón

On 26 March 1962, the ORI became the United Party of the Cuban Socialist Revolution (PURSC), which in turn became the Communist Party of Cuba on 3 October 1965. In Article 5 of the Cuban constitution of 1976, the Communist Party is recognized as "the superior guiding force of society and of the State, that organizes and orients common efforts toward the high goals of the construction of socialism and the advancement toward communist society".[4]The Communist Party is not the only recognized political party in Cuba. Other parties, such as the Christian Democratic Party and the Democratic Social-Revolutionary Party, exist with marginal influence.[citation needed] All parties, including the Communist Party, are prohibited from publicly advertizing their organizations.
