What would you do with all your time that you spend following me around from forum to forum ? Maybe get a job? One that would help your family pay the rent ???

Ya Alan. And when you are out, we need a armload of firewood for the cabin.

I like how the very first comment under a story about the affordable rental units for struggling people is this:

please make this pet-friendly!

Seriously?

If you can't afford to rent to the point of relying on gov't to provide you with living arrangements you should not be allowed pets. Pets cost money. Pets are optional. Pets are added expenses. So, you beg to have affordable units so you can live there because you can't afford it...but then you immediately decide to waste extra money you have on optional pets. Where's the logic?

Might as well ask the gov't for affordable units with a free supply of cigarettes.

Even Steven, I just came home from the vets. Another $100 bill. I could not agree with you more on one hand and on the other a loving pet is what some people need and all they have. Very torn here.

I see fb sites from people who can not afford to take care of their animals. So heartbreaking.

Very torn here on the pet issue.
Here I thought there was nothing lower than a snakes belly in a rut in a ditch. I was wrong.

Why do pets always mean dog/cats or other large and expensive animals? Guinea Pigs, hamsters, budgies etc make great companions at a fraction of the cost.

Major animal lover here..
But I read the rentals wanted here on Cnet
2 dogs and a cat. Or a large dog, and everyone knows landlords are not keen on renting to ppl with pets.
Everyone claims their dog is quiet, yea when they aren't home they can't hear them barking
People often need the comfort of a lil creature but common sense means you know it is going to be harder to find a rental unit.

Once rented a house - was a nightmare, cut to the near end they got a dog ( nonono) and then the dog had puppies. Free for all kennel

I believe the smaller pets are overlooked, I can't believe a rental has ever been destroyed by a hamster.

When I walked through the townhouse I eventually bought they renters had turned one bedroom upstairs into one giant bird cage. They had, wait for it, a giant tree branch all across one room for their bird. Up, the bird had the whole bedroom, free to fly around!

I'm not suggesting that's the norm, I am suggesting that's why some landlords charge more for allowing pets.

By allowing pets, the landlord is disallowing the future choices he will have for tenants. For example; I am terribly allergic to cats, and if a cat lived in that house previously, I could not live there.

I have nothing against pets, I love animals myself.

But people are freaking dumb. They ask the gov't to subsidize them because they can't afford homes ... and then they turn around and waste money on something that is completely optional. It's like telling your landlord you won't be paying the rent because you can't afford it...but look, here's a brand new Playstation I bought! DOES IT MAKE SENSE??

Get pets when you can afford them. Get 3 dogs and 7 cats, nobody cares. But if you get them, don't ask the gov't to help you with paying for your fluffy friends.
