it was a annual fee, i believe it also included a membership, one on one visits with the dr. on the "time I asked for", eg, talk to dr on my time, not theres...it jsut seemed odd to me...I have Never heard of that type of Dr. office, apparently it is by Dillworth.

anyone know any good female family doctor? who doesn't charge an arm or leg for everything? the place I go to charge for doctor's note, a signature, they charge for everything there. I think payment monthly for medicare is expensive enought when I hardly ever go to the doctor. Now I have to pay for a signature on my medical form. Thanks

The Medi-Kel Clinic in Rutland is accepting new patients. They are also a walk-in, which is very handy for seeing your doctor when he/she is the walk-in but when you don't have an appointment. They also run the clinic at the SuperStore (which is a zoo) but the Rutland location (other than parking) is good. There's also a pharmacy right next door which is excellent and has cheaper dispensing fees than some of the other pharmacies in town.

Mmmmmkay, so far the experience has been rather disappointing.

Called a dozen of places, none are accepting new clients.

I just checked the list on the link given above for a physician in the South Okanagan. There seems to be ONE (only ONE) family physician in Penticton South to Osoyoos accepting new patients and that's in Oliver (so if you're in Penticton I guess it's walk in clinics only available). The rest that may take you are specialists, thus assuming you have a specific condition.

Where are we going so wrong to maintain and recruit doctors? There are a whole lot of people in the South Okanagan who aren't getting a doctor.

Also noted that not one of the doctors in Penticton south to the border are female, so no choice if you prefer a woman doctor.

See if you can get a referral through friends or family. My doctor is not accepting new patients officially but she accepted a few through me when I asked her.

I spent time walking in to talk to receptionists face-to-face. I was always polite and respectful, and it paid off in the end. It took 3 months of door-knocking and stopping in though.

The idea of seeing if a family member's doc will take you on is a good one.

Good luck, Captain. I've had no luck, myself. Luckily the walk-ins around here are fine. But nothing beats having your own GP.

This one always comes up empty, too.

I have had great success just going in to the drop-in clinic for whatever happens to ail me at the time and, if I like the doctor, I ask if they'll take me (and family) on as a patient. I've done this a few times over the years when we've moved, and the answer is always yes. And yes, in each case they didn't show as taking patients. It's worth a try, at any rate.

^ Jo's method worked for me. I had hooked up with a couple of GPs who 'said' they were accepting new patients, but would have to call me 'sometime later, maybe not until the fall' - and then for a 'meet and greet' - ???what??!!

I went to a fairly large walk-in clinic just a few blocks from here and told the receptionist I wanted to follow up with __(my medical condition)___ and the doctor I saw made the referral I wanted. This clinic has a new doctor joining them and when he expands his hours I would get a call from the clinic but in the meantime, all my care would be handled through them but not necessarily by the same doctor. Fine by me....

We were able to secure a family doctor through asking our friends and random people on a street. Finally somebody referred as to a doctor who wasn't accepting new clients but made an exception for us. Calling clinics around brought no results, and websites don't seem up to date.

Walk-ins work just fine, but I was recently diagnosed with a condition that will require treatment for a foreseeable future, so it's nice to have one doctor to be talking to, not whoever is in today.
