Couldn't agree more. Thought I could handle ICBC on my own but learned that all that warm and fuzziness in the beginning is done simpy to frustrate you later when they become adversaries. And believe me, they are adversaries and will crush you like a bug if they get the chance. Get a lawyer and do exactly what he says.

Also, many of the specialists in town are ICBC lackies and will screw you, don't go to any specialist ICBC recomends, don't give them access to your medical records even if you have nothing to hide. Let the Lawyer take control and live your life and get healthy.

As far as I BC goes, three years ago was rear ended, I BC told me it was and lvi and I was entitled to nothing seven months later after I hired a lawyer my settlement cheque was aprox 14000.00 lawyer got 38%. but still worth getting a lawyer...

Hi there, would somebody know what an appropriate settlement amount would be with ICBC for a car crash with bruises and whiplash?
We were on our way to a family weekend vacation when we got into a head on collision, and my 2 year old car got totalled.
My toddler was with me. She was screaming out of shock, but other than that she seemed ok. I got a big bruise on my stomach (belt), my left hip was hurting for about a week or two, and whiplash. It happened 8 month ago, and I still suffer from neck pain.

Talk to a lawyer. Document, document, document. Write it all down. I'm hoping you've seen a chiro, a physio, and a massage therapist - choose people who are good in their field. I have a good team and they helped me immensely. I won't deal with ICBC - I get too emotional. I need someone else to handle it for me.

A couple of observations from others I have seen go through this. One, six months is not adequate for some injuries to decide if there could be further improvement (as mentioned above). Because our medical system moves rather slowly, I know someone who had a back injury, not enough to put them right out of work, but working was very painful daily, physical job which he was handling well before the injury. After a year of the massage and physio (the only way he was able to continue working). Then at some point, ICBC tried to convince the injured person that they were recovered when they weren't. When he wasn't going to budge on that, ICBC seemed to "encourage" the doctor (we don't know exactly what happened) to request a more effective (probably more expensive) referral to a specialist. Of course months delay to get in to specialist, and voila! One injection gave much better relief. Now condition is probably not cured, future injections might be necessary, but will insurance cover this effective but possibly long term treatment?

Okay different situation: I was called in to jury duty once. Turned up, it was an ICBC case. Of course ICBC was trying to deny or limit the injured person's claim. Injured person had been normal, active guy before, considerable disability after. The jury only heard one morning of presentation and suddenly we were thanked and dismissed. My take on it. ICBC were hoping he would cave before it got to jury and he was going to go through with it, and ICBC decided it would be cheaper to settle. (I have no idea if this was the actual situation). So if you have a good claim, you may have to get a lawyer to go to the mat for you to get some results.
