Mole Removal Procedures/Prices
Mole Removal Procedures/Prices
I have some moles on my head/face that I would like removed. These moles are not cancerous, simply cosmetic. I have been quoted a little over $600 to remove 3 moles from a plastic surgeon in Kelowna. This procedure would be cut and stitch. Could my local walk in clinic or family doctor do the same job for a fraction of the price or no price? I'm freaked of needles, does anyone know any other ways/procedures? Thanks.

I had one removed by a GP. The mole was only about 3mm but she cut out a chunk that took 8 stitches to close. I was left with a lovely scar. I would happily pay $600 to have my skin repaired.

Why would you want to remove three moles from a plastic surgeon in Kelowna? (I couldn't resist.)
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

I saw that too Bubalouie. I have a skin tag that remained after my second pregnancy and it drives me crazy and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about whether it worked or not.
Otherwise, I delegate you to go ahead and try it to make sure it's not excrutiatingly painful and then report back! Thanks....you're a pal!!

I had a 1 cm black mole removed from the back of my hand a few years back. It was done by a walk in doctor and when we got the results back it was pre-cancerous. i still have the scar and was told to watch and see if it came back. So far so good. I would probably pay the money because I wouldn't want the scars on my face...

Hmmm interesting. The plastic surgeon suggested that I would have a scar if he removes it, so maybe it would be a lot more economical to see a walk in doctor to do the same thing. I wonder about laser?

Whaaaaat? If the plastic surgeon says that removal will leave a scar, you would trust a GP to do it?
You would rather have some amateur carve up your face than have a Specialist do the best he can?

Basically what I'm trying to get at, would it make a big difference between and "amature" gp compared to a plastic surgeon? Its a simple task, and I'm guessing it would probably all depend on the experience of the doctor performing the procedure.

A Plastic Surgeon is a surgical specialist who has completed a minimum of 5 years of study and training in surgery after receiving a medical degree. He or she has demonstrated successful completion of training and passed a rigorous examination process overseen by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is thus specifically qualified to practice reconstructive and aesthetic (cosmetic) plastic surgery.
Most people are familiar with cosmetic surgery. Plastic Surgeons are the experts in cosmetic surgery. However, many people do not realize that Plastic Surgeons also look after most of the hand and facial injuries in Canada. They manage most large wounds including burns. Canadian Plastic Surgeons treat a large number of patients with skin cancer, and they help the rehabilitation of breast cancer patients with breast reconstruction. They repair congenital deformities like cleft lips and abnormal hands. They participate in leg, hand, face, and skull reconstruction after severe accidents. In fact, if any part of the body is abnormal or needs reconstruction to restore function or appearance after birth, cancer or accidents, Plastic Surgeons are there to help.
n Alberta and B.C., all surgeons and their surgical facilities must be licensed for each procedure they perform. They cannot advertise themselves as cosmetic surgeons without holding a surgical specialty. Doctors who call themselves cosmetic surgeons are not required to meet any of the strict training and oversight rules that govern plastic surgeons. In addition to five years of specialized surgical training, plastic surgeons must pass a national exam and be certified as members of the Royal College.

"I was a general practitioner before I became a specialist," says Dr. Brian Peterson, a plastic surgeon in Kelowna, B.C., and president of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which represents plastic surgeons.
"As a GP, you have medical school and an internship. You have no experience doing surgery and no appreciation for all those things that can go wrong. Five years of surgical training teaches you how to select patients properly and what to do when things go wrong."
I can't believe you are asking "what is the difference"? You stated that you wanted to have the moles removed for "esthetic reasons". So then would you be happy if you were left with very obvious scars instead of a few little brown spots?

I had mine removed by Dr. Chetty and no scar left. He is trained in dermatology and price wise was quite acceptable. Good luck!
