Dermatologists
Are there many dermatologists in this area? Are the wait lists long?

No. Yes. Get a referral from a GP and start waiting.

And if you happen to have tattoos she will tell you that they are the root of all your skin issues.

Re: Dermatologists
There are barely any Dermatologists around. There are some doctors with a special interest in skin who treat patients with skin conditions and one of them is Dr Wright in Lumby. There is a Certified Dermatologist in Kelowna who I have also seen, Dr Carmel Anderson. She is nice. Very pretty too.

No. GP might end up referring you to the one in Vernon.
You might have better luck trying say Okanagan Skin Care - they treat some issues.

Re: Dermatologists
With any specialist I find if you're willing to travel it will cut down your wait time. My rheumatologist is in Kamloops - wait time of 6 weeks vs. 2 years and 3 months, for local.
I haven't failed until I quit.

Re: Dermatologists
You can see one via Medeo.ca. It's a new service offered via webcam and voice chat. Once you sign up and log in, you create a new issue and give details. You will be connected with a coordinator (also via webcam and voice chat) who will connect you with a doctor either right away or maybe a day or two later depending on your needs. They have an option to also upload pictures so the doctor can review them then discuss with you what they think. They can prescribe things and have the prescription faxed to a pharmacy of your choice, and you can follow up with the same doctor if you want/need.
I've used it a few times now. I was also wanting to see a dermatologist, and a coordinator through them mentioned they have them available (as well as other types of doctors including psychiatrists). You might end up getting a referral to a local one (dermatologist) to follow up though. I am not sure how that works exactly.
It's pretty cool overall.
