No xrays for now.

Post by I Think »

Doctor said "go get an xray"
Probably not going to bother, if they find something will have frustrating two year wait for treatment.
Would rather leave it to become an emergency so that there will be no waiting, just treatment.

A little curious here - why not get an x-ray and be pleasantly surprised if nothing of significance is found?
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

The symptom indicates a surgical problem.
The wait times around Vernon are disgusting.
I will wait.

Waiting on something like this rarely makes things better.

If you don't like wait times at one place, go to another. That's what I did when my wait time for a specialist in town was over two years. I told my doc I'd travel, ended up in Kamloops 6 weeks later.
I haven't failed until I quit.

This is the most asinine reasoning I've heard for not getting medical treatment.

The xray has no bearing on whether your condition becomes an emergency or not. If you get the xray and it shows something, you'll still get the treatment if it becomes an emergency. If it's a slow progression, then you're on the surgery wait list. If it becomes an emergency, you get treated whether you've had the xray or not.

The xray has no bearing on your wait time.

Why would we, the public, care about you not getting an X-ray? Just curious..

Because if the health care system is not working for one of us, you can bet it is not working for many of us.

I don't know. I see one less person in line in front of me. That's progress.

Queue jumping is the name of the game, sorry, but you still are behind lots of people.

If you get the xray, and it's cancer, you get to move up the line somewhat. If you don't, you die first.
The system works on Triage principle, that's not queue jumping, that's treating people who really really need it first. If you can wait to get your xray, you are probably not that bad.So nice of you to let someone else get their treatment instead.

When I was rear-ended on the 3rd, I was taken to hospital. I waited a whole 2 hours for x-rays, which took half an hour (I was strapped to a spine board the whole time). I was given the "all clear" shortly after, and walked out knowing I had no broken bones. I was miserable, uncomfortable and in pain, but at least I know for sure. And I am glad they made certain before releasing me.

yes, in general you get pretty quick service if you are at risk for something serious, life or limb threatening. I got a bad concussion/ possible spinal whatever from an accident. I don't remember most of the waiting part since I was OTL, but I got the CT (I think) and they did whatever they did (which I can't remember), and was released several hours later. I did not mind the wait (a) since I had no idea I was waiting for anything and b) I was grateful to be cleared with nothing more than post concussion headache/confusion. The system usually works when it has to.

If you are truly concerned and dont want to wait, just pay and get it done the next day. Yes it should be free, but its your life and days/weeks could mean life or death......... nothing to even think about....
