Malaria Vaccine

Post by I Think »

As reported on CBC.CA
Malaria infects around 200 million people a year and killed an estimated 584,000 in 2013, the vast majority of them in sub-Saharan Africa. More than 80 percent of malaria deaths are in children under the age of five.

So it is estimated that the drug is about 25% effective in the very young and about 50% effective in the under five age group, so according to my weak math skills that means 200,000 kids +/- will live if the whole infant population is vaccinated.
So are you for or against vaccinating these kids, knowing that 300,000 will die anyway ?
We're lost but we're making good time.

Expected the anti- vaxers to be all over this one.
They seem to forget that without vaccines many many families would have died out due to small pox and other plagues.
