Bought one for my wife years ago. She used it once...I can still hear the screams in my sleep. lol
It rips the hairs out by the roots...enough said.

You might want to try laser removal. I hear it is relatively painless, and if you follow the course of treatment, permanent. Pricey, but if you keep an eye on the Groupon/Smart Betty sites they come up every so often.
I haven't failed until I quit.

Laser hair removal is the best choice. It will take between 6 to 8 $400 sessions, and you will love the results. It is worth every single penny and every single zap. It hurts a little, especially around the ankles, knees, etc.; it feels like you're being thwapped by an elastic band. You also get to wear some uber-stylish green shades.

Oh yeah, epilators suck, and the laser gadgets available to consumers are not as powerful, and online reviews reflect that they eventually cost just as much once you begin replacing the bulbs.

I've got a Phillips Satinelle. It's a bit tedious compared to waxing and essentially accomplishes the same thing. It's not pleasant by any stretch of the imagination, but it could be worse. I'd only suggest for the legs. No where intimate. Fine hair like on your arms would just snap off instead of pluck out.
